Jerry Kill Press Conference at noon today

Biggest things I got out of the presser:
Campion is practicing but only lightly
Lauer not back yet
Need Gentry to get healthy
Should have played Rodney Smith a lot more. Only player he has ever seen play a perfect game and that was impressive as a freshman. Sounds like Nugget can go walk his lizard in the dog house cuz Rodney just got the starting job.
The crowd was amazing and that's what happens when you bring in a big time team. Expects the same atmosphere for Michigan game, Wisconsin game, etc.

Coach started with a statement on TCU game and then said he wasn't gonna talk about TCU anymore. Sid: So how do you think you played against TCU? #Sidbit

Jerry seemed very tensed and angry today compared to before the TCU game. I am not sure exactly what that indicates other than he doesn't want to lose the next game.

Love it, he always expects to win, and that energy fuels the entire staff and team. I remember the same type of anger kill had after the illinois loss last year, came out and destroyed iowa.

""You're going to have people all over the place all of a sudden (saying) we're not worth anything, but you're only as good as your next game. You come back and do what you're supposed to, play your (butt) off and you beat Iowa (on Nov. 8), things will be better." - Kill October 2014

This was my biggest takeaway too. He was pretty short with answers and wasn't too happy. He sounded most upset with himself, that they didn't play Pirsig at LT to start out (which may have prevented the first fumble) and that they didn't play Rodney Smith more (which may have prevented the 2nd fumble).

Sid's Starkeys endorsement might be in jeopardy following this presser

Thought Kill definitely looked pissed and Claeys even looked a little bit stressed. Hopefully its a good thing

Even my wife (who was in the office with me, on her laptop) commented: "well that's a side of Jerry I haven't seen." I didn't view it as tense, as much as intense. JK does not like to lose and I think, like a lot of us, he expected to win. I also think he's not a finger-pointer, throw under-the-bus kinda guy. I'm sure he's taking responsibility for anything that didn't go right. He has embraced the role he's been forced into because of the situation -- getting out and doing PR and fund-raising. I have a feeling he's going to be more involved in coaching and some of those other things are going to suffer for the foreseeable future. Good thing for everybody...except our opponents.

I took it more as a coach who believes/knows his team can compete with anyone but isn't here for the moral victory of just competing. He wanted to win, believed they could win, then played a game he felt they could've/should've won. Now he's also determined to not let his team lose focus.

Yeah, I think I was trying to say that. Perhaps I should have added that I've seen this side of him before and it's what makes him a perennial great coach. He's pretty good at figuring out what buttons to push.

I haven't seen the presser yet but I would bet a lot of it has to do with this next upcoming game. If the players aren't up and ready for this game, coaches too, he knows they could easily get beat. Gotta be tough when the players were focused on that game all off season. He doesn't want them to take a step backward. Wants them to forget about TCU, it's over and done. Doing everything he can to avoid coming out flat at CSU.

His tension could be due to the fact that we are favored to win this game but competitively they are close enough to us that he knows it's not out of the realm of possibility that we could lose this game and the pressure on the program at that point would be intense. He'd face two bad opponents after this and would be three weeks away from being able to redeem himself and the team against real competition. Compare that to last week where we were heavy underdogs but he felt we could compete and with some luck win. A win last week would have taken pressure off him, Leidner, everyone. Now he needs a win bad, should get it, but it's college football and stuff happens.

Trust me. The only pressure JK feels is from himself. All the rest of the stuff you hear him say about "fire the head coach," is sarcasm.

In the TCU game, we had nothing to lose. We lose to them, they were ranked number 2 and it was expected, unless they had completely dominated us, it wouldn't affect our season that much. We only had things to gain from that game. The rest of the season though, we have everything to lose, Jerry and The Team knows that. That's why I think the aura has changed after the TCU game.

There has been a lot of opinions here as to the whys of Kill's persona at the press conference today. To me the above post probably comes the closest to the mark as to what is going on. Kill is a honest guy but he is a master at managing his communication/body language to motivate and achieve his goals for the team and the program. He definitely wants them to be focused on Saturday's challenge. That is the agenda, and there is no ifs ands, or but about it. Hopefully, they are receiving the message loud and clear.

Kill uses that press conference all the time to motivate his team through the media.
He knows this is a terrible game to play after a physical and draining loss. I'm worried about who Kill mentions is banged up. Hopefully no more on the O-line. Hopefully not any of the top 6 secondary guys against Higgins. We'll need our depth for this one.
If we come out flat we may never catch back up, even if we have better talent across the board.
CSU probably played every single player and the waterboy on Sat. They'll be well rested, healed up, and somewhat untested. They didn't need to open the playbook up very wide to beat Savanah St.

If we played this game and TCU in a different order we beat CSU by 30. This weekend I'll be sitting in my seats in colorado hoping for a 1 point win and 2 weeks of sweet mushy cupcakes before the B1G season.

I took it as a person who has to go tell Leidner he is gong to try all 4 quarterbacks over the next 4 games to make sure the public knows that he knows what he is doing #YOLO

Kill ended the press conferenced with a statement "when we lose, quarterback oughta be fired head coach oughta be fired" That right? that's the way it is."

Has Coach kill taken any heat for this loss? Who's complaining?

As I recall that is what Kill said is that's how fans react after a loss. He was just pointing out the fickle nature of fans (I am sure he didn't mean to include GopherHole fans in that statement).

IMO, this has always been his MO, in an attempt to take the heat off his players. I think he was indignant in lumping himself with Mitch. He is probably aware of the Mitch detractors. Also, it is sorta cliche that the coach and QB get all the heat when the team loses.

Down in Fort Worth, Coach P's presser was more negative and frustrated than usual. I think both coaches hate that this game was on the schedule. The long holiday weekend may have made the first game hangover worse, too.

Hope your injured guys heal up quick. Good luck in FoCo this week!

ya know these 2 coaches may end up coaching against each other frequently depending on standings/job changes.

I don't think he is going to wait forever for people to perform. If guys can'take get well others will take their place, if guys can't throw or catch he is not going to wait.

That's definitely my take. From the day the schedule came out many have felt the game this week was a potential trap game. He wants everyone thinking about this game and not the TCU game.

I'm hoping for a very strong game by our guys and get the young ones some playing time.

Go Gophers!*

Man, I feel good when I watch a press conference like that. Shows me what good hands we as Minnesota fans are in. These guys are like bring it on. They're pissed they had to play TCU right out of the shoot and they can't wait to get goin' again.

My take is a coaching staff that was positive they were going start the season with a win. It didn't happen but it was right there for the taking. They are pissed and anxious to play and dominate Colorado St. to get the bad taste outta their mouth.

Jerry did say there would be some surprises on offense. I think Brooks might be one, even though he is talking about Smith playing more. Who else would be a surprise besides a quarterback getting some snaps?
