...2 years ago when we played there.

Here are my rough notes from the Jerry Kill/Tracy Claeys/Matt Limegrover press conference. Will post official transcripts later:

Jerry Kill:
• Kids are coming in today and we're going to work on NE. We had a good team meeting on Sunday. Our job is to make sure we get them prepared and play hard and play well.
• On NE bad loss, if it help or hurts - You don't want to face Bo after that. I know what kind of competitor he is, and how intense he is. When you play them, you want them to come off a win, not a loss. I have a great deal of respect for him. He's probably got them in meetings right now, they'll be ready to play.
• David Cobb's best attribute - Patience. He's very very patient.
• From the time that Tom Osborne ran out of the tunnel, I knew we were in trouble. Before the game, their stands are 3 quarters full when you jog out for warmup. Where you're playing, the crowd, the tradition - when they marched out, and they'll have senior day this game too, they just kept coming, because they have a strong walk-on program. Hopefully they don't call Osborne back after I said that.
• These last games all have high level people that can make you miss. There's people that make the schedule, with addition to the two Big 10 conferences, and the 2 teams that came in from the east, and it all recycles. You play everyone and it cycles around.
• Mitch will be fine, I'm not worried about that part. He's multi-competitive so he'll be ready to go.
• They've got to feel good to play good, that's our biggest job this week because we need to go out and play fast.
• Melvin Gordon is on a different planet. I don't know what else to say. I just know he's really good, the thing that makes him different is his speed. He's big and he can really run fast. There's so many good ones, he's playing at a high level, but so are many other backs, including ours. He can get it over with right now, just like JT did on Saturday. Murray can run, and we just couldn't gain. Special athletes.
Tracy Claeys:
• Held OSU 15 under their average - we had one miscommunication and 2 missed tackles that gave us some grief and they're good enough to take advantage. We played a pretty good ball game, if we didn't have those, we had a good chance of holding them to 21 points. Wish close counted, it doesn't.
• The better athletes you have, the more turnovers you cause.
• Ameer Abdullah had a good game against us a year ago... fastest RB we've played. We'll have to do a much better job
• It's hard to win on the road. We’ve already been in trouble once this year trying to look ahead. Better be read this weekend I've never met anyone that thought they were bad do good at anything.

Matt Limegrover:
• I've got to give a lot of props to David Cobb, he's a guy that can make an average group look pretty good. Not that we're an average group.
• 4 things we need to work on this week - one of these 4 things was throwing the ball better, it had a more to do with the 10 other guys out there and not just Mitch.
• There's things in sports you can't explain, because NE is good at defense, sometimes a team just has another team's number. I have a feeling we're going to see their A game playing there, and coming off that game. The last thing we can do is sit back and think we have this thing figured out. This is a big week as far as preparation goes.
Mitch is a competitive kid, I think he likes it when your backs are against the wall. We're kind of in this round robin tournament to see who will win the Big 10 West, and that's where he wants to be. It's going to be loud, and they're going be hostile, bring it on.

3 or 4 games before Ohio State Donovahn Jones was really starting to come into his own. Should be a lift this week.

Nebraska would be smart to line up Tom Osborne to lead out the team again after reading this.

Better be ready this weekend I've never met anyone that thought they were bad do good at anything.

I like that quote. Claeys is usually good for a good quote every now and then.

I like that quote too, but I'm a little confused by it (and I'm very aware that I have a tendency to read too much into things, alot!). Is he suggesting that his players are down on their abilities? Or is he suggesting that he has to do a better job of building up his players' egos and confidence so that they believe that they're just as good as their opponents? His quote kinda took me by surprise. I always had the impression that our defense believed they were the bomb extraordinaire. Wonder if there is a confidence issue that Claeys is concerned about? Or, perhaps, he was just throwing out some aphorism cause he couldn't think of anything else to say. In any event, I thought the defense (especially the backfield) was bringing it big time against OSU!

Not to worry. I think some of the circumstances from the OSU game may have shaken the confidence of our D. I think we'll be a confident bunch this week and healthier than last week.

I'd love to see this thread topic on GopherHole 25 years from now: Kirk Feretz JR Knew we were in trouble against MN when Kill ran out of the tunnel.

I watched the presser and he wasn't really talking specifically about the team, it was more just a general statement. He was asked about what D'Vondre Campbell said after the OSU game ("we'll see them in 3 weeks") and he said while it's good to have confidence, you also can't be looking ahead. I think it's pretty obvious our defense is a confident group.

I don't read D"Vondre Campbell's statement about see you in three weeks as cocky

The Big 10 network guys already have Wisconsin lined up to be playing Ohio State in three weeks, funny thing is both Minnesota and Iowa are going to have something to say about that.
I see the D'Vondre Campbell statement of we will see you in three weeks to tOSU after last Saturday's games as a motivationg factor for these Gophers, and that they want another bite at the Buckeyes apple not that they are looking past Nebraska and obviously Wisconsin. They want another crack at Ohio State and the only way they can satisfy that itch and desire is to win the next two weeks and punch a ticket to Indianapolis and the Big 10 title game. Ohio State fans were saying it after last weeks game leaving TCF that the Gophers had given them the toughest game they had seen all year and that the Buckeyes had left the door open for the Gophers to walk through and win that game. To me this means Campbell and the guy's believe they have unfinished business, not that they are looking past anyone.

These Gophers especially on defense believe they are good enough talent wise and coaching wise to go in to Lincoln Nebraska and Madison Wisconsin and win the next two games. IT is up to them to prove it as Nebraska is going to be circling the wagons, Senior day in Lincoln they will looking to prove last year in Minnesota was a FLUKE. This means the Gophers are going to have to play tough crack you in the mouth football on Saturday 11/22/2014.

I'm glad guy's like Campbell and Thompson are confident bunch, besides when is the last time in November that the Minnesota Gophers controlled there own destiny in the conference title race?
These guy's still know they have every chance to replace 1967 in TCF stadium with a 2014 banner and they know they have it in them to do so. You can bet they Nebraska will be trying to mimic some of that read option fakes and pitches that Ohio State used against the Gophers and some of those middle screens and inside slant routes, I can really see them going after the option reads with Abdullah and Armstrong after the difficulty they had throwing last week, they are definitely going to be running some read option football against the Gophers. Nebraska still doesn't respect the Gophers and they certainly don't think were coming in to their house to leave with a victory.
Leidner alone should have a chip on his shoulder after the Ohio State game, he was not apart of the Nebraska victory last year, so it is up to Mitch to prove that he can be the one to help the Gophers beat Nebraska. The Gophers have a lot to play for, and for a nice change they there own destiny. Everything they have practiced for and put in the time and extra effort is in front of them these next two weeks, can they snatch that brass ring and be remembered as Champions?

Anybody who's watched the body language of our DBs this year knows we have some confident kids.
