Gotta imagine that's it. I'm sure he badly wants to be a head coach, but just can't do it. While I'm no fan of Jerry, I have to admire his love of the game. The only thing that makes sense is his health is making it too hard to be a full time coach.
Officially he quit.Did he get fired at New Mexico state? I saw him mouthing off at a press conference post bowl game. Seemed to be some blown out of proportion gripe about access to New Mexico Lobos facilities.
The irony is that until he started having seizures at Minnesota, his uncommon stability was perhaps his most notable trait. Same assistants forever, typical linear career progression, one region, relatively slow pace of job changes.lol. This will be his 9th job since he left Minnesota in 2015.
And he didn’t work in 2016 or 2018. Incredible.
I'd be shocked if he was pushed out given how he resurrected such a terrible program. Plus when they hired him they had to have known that he's prone to making stupid comments in front of the microphone.Officially he quit.
I would not be surprised if it was something else.
Not every school, even bad ones are all about Ws though. Calling out the other school's AD was pretty wild / can have consequences.I'd be shocked if he was pushed out given how he resurrected such a terrible program. It could be that, but he has known about his health issues for years and keeps taking jobs that supposedly aren't good for his health. I'm starting to wonder if it is also due to wearing out his welcome at places and/or he just doesn't like staying somewhere very long (who knows why). The only thing that makes sense is his health is making it too hard to be a full time coach.
The Frank Abagnale of college coaching!Even fugitives move less.
What I didn't get about any of that was:I wonder if he got the role at Vanderbilt he wanted the U to give him where he could be the liaison between the head coach and the AD.
His college football US tour has been something to behold since he "retired". Wonder where he will be headed in a year or so when he decides to move somewhere else. Assume he is attempting to live/work in all 50 states at this point.....only thing that makes sense.
1000% the right decision to not bow down to Kill. If I remember right he was offered an administrative role but it wasn't the one he wanted. What I didn't get about any of that was:
1. If you demand a job like that ... that also kinda kills your chance at the job.
2. We already had someone doing that job reportedly BECAUSE Jerry didn't get along with the administration types. Again reason for him NOT to be doing that job.
U made the right call....
We'll have to start a "Where Will Jerry Work Next?" thread. This Vanderbilt hire satisfies the SEC square on my Jerry Kill Bingo Card.
Not ... the worst choice. He's moving to Nashville just to be around more bachelorette parties.

He was denied a mid season raiseDid he get fired at New Mexico state? I saw him mouthing off at a press conference post bowl game. Seemed to be some blown out of proportion gripe about access to New Mexico Lobos facilities.
My first thought wasn't bachelorette parties but I 100% could see him putting on his cowboy hat and strolling into a honky tonk ordering a burger and a beer and enjoying some music and lunch. He's moving to Nashville just to be around more bachelorette parties.
