I apologize if someone has already discussed this, but I pointed this out to those around me toward the end of the game:

Jerry Kill 3rd season (2010) NIU 34 Minn 23
Jerry Kill 3rd season (2013) Minn 34 Neb 23

Spooky, huh?

...Jerry Kill to Nebraska confirmed? :)

Just an example of the Transitive Property of Football, dpodoll:

NIU > MN MN > Neb therefore NIU > Neb.

You forgot to mention that both games were played at TCF.

Was it really an upset though? We were horrible that Season...

You forgot to mention that Kill didn't coach the team last weekend.

But seriously, is he officially credited with the Nebraska win? I would think he isn't.

He is still the head coach, so he gets the W. Claeys is just the acting HC.

Team win! Takes an army to fight the battle! Crowd did their part also!

The team gets credited with the win. Claeys is part of Kills staff. Mad props for Claeys for a great gameplan these past couple of weeks.....but does anyone think that Kill had nothing to do with it?

I'm sure this will be a topic on all the football shows. Geez, could we pull a smaller needle out of a haystack.

Should have listened to Judd this morning. He said maybe 2 sentences about the game and spent the rest of the half hour segment telling everyone that Claeys is a better game day coach than Jerry.

Well, when it's 7 days between games and 24 hour radio/internet/tv coverage… :D

I'm assuming he didn't actually give any specific examples?

I'm not trying to undervalue what Claeys has done in Kill's absence (he's done a great job), but really what big in game decisions has he had to make?

4th and 10 was a pretty big one.

I was really quite shocked actually. I was expecting some actual analysis of the game and discussion. I should have known better in retrospect. Souhan was subbing in for Dubay today. It was awful.

The biggest part of his argument was saying that Coach Claey's would not have left Phillip Nelson in during the Iowa game and would have pulled him for Mitch Leidner. He argued this by saying that Coach Claeys pulled Leidner at perfect times in the Northwestern and Nebraska game and he would have done the same thing and pulled Nelson in the Iowa game.

Frankly, I didn't care to listen to it. I was looking forward to some analysis about the game and to see how the local media viewed the upset. I got none of that. I heard "great gameplan" and "I'd draft Hageman to my team." Analysis that my little sister could have made.

On the flip side, the Ruesse & Mackey show was so much better. Talking stats and how the game played out. They spent maybe two minutes comparing Coach Kill to Coach Claeys and the rest of the time was about the game. I'm warming up to Ruesse. He seems like he really wants to see the Gophers succeed, he is just pretty dry and blunt when they aren't. I can get that. I like Phil Mackey for the most part too.

EDIT: Another one of Judd's arguments was that Claey's calm demeanor allows him to make better decisions, while Jerry getting hot headed so often causes him to make decisions based on emotion and not with his head.

Judd Zulgad doesn't know anything about the Gopher Football Program. His takes on anything related to the Gophers are flat out wrong, and some are just plain bizarre (bring back Mason, etc.). He's a total idiot with no depth to his thoughts at all. Amazing he's on the radio.

I heard the team was really pushing to stick with Glacier Freeze Gatorade and Claeys put his foot down and decided to switch back to original Lemon-Lime.

Upon further thought. I don't think he watched the game. Hence, no real discussion.

Kind of sad when your career is Sports and you aren't watching (or watching a replay) of the game.

I agree with that. I liked Costa's comment on another thread, where he said something to the effect of "we have been drowning, and we are made at him because he is describing the water." When your team is coming off a really bad 50 years, fair analysis is going to sting. He is maybe a little colorful with his language and criticism, but to say that we have been bad for a long time is fair. I get the feeling the Reusse would like nothing more than to be praising a Pasadena-bound Gopher team for a great season, but he is not going to get too excited about wins over weak out of conference teams or a trip to a bowl game with a 2-6 B1G record.

You're right, I'll give you that one.

I guess my point was I don't think there are that many big decisions made by a head coach during the game. Most "adjustments" are made by the position coaches and coordinators. That probably hasn't changed much.

So, like normal, his whole take was based on complete guesses. I'm sure this is something he never even though of: Limegrover very well could have made the decision to switch up the QB's the past two weeks, not Claeys. In fact, I would bet that for personnel decisions, Claeys sticks to the defensive side while Limegrover does the offense.
