Why hasn't his name come up?
2007 at BC 11-3 and Finished #10
2008 at BC 9-5 fired for interviewing with the Jets

He's only 46 and from Wisconsin. Presently coaching Omaha in the UFL. Does this make too much sense?

He played at UW-Whitewater. His name has to be on the list, along with several others.

I remembered him being fired for that interview...that was insane...

I think he would be great, but how long would he stick around? Obviously he has NFL aspirations so every off season we would have to deal with the NFL openings and such, still he is a good coach.

Realistic Options
1. Jagodzinski
2. Sumlin
3. Leach

I don't care if the coach bolts after 2 years if he wins 10 games. We'll be a better program because of the tenure.

The list could include a lot of people, no particular order, and I am not endorsing any or all of them. These are likely names we'll hear:

Jeff Jagodzinki
Paul Chryst
Kevin Sumlin
Mike Leach
Al Golden
Dan McCarney
Craig Bohl
Jim Leavitt
Dewayne Walker
Leslie Frazier
Scott Linehan
Bob Nielson

There are others I'm likely forgetting.

Cross off Chryst, Frazier, and Linehan. No chance in hell. Chryst would never come here and Frazier and Linehan are NFL guys.

Chryst and Maturi have personal relationship. That would be suicide for Maturi for the abuse he'd take for making that move.

Jagodzinski is this year's Tommy Tuberville. Get him here now before the bidding begins. He can't be making $50,000 in the UFL and his roots are in the region. Fire Brewster this week, promote Tim Davis the Interm. Get Jagodzinski here ASAP before Illinois grabs him and just tell him to recruit and day-to-day coaching duties begin on Dec. 1

AK, please email this to Maturi, at least get the thought in his head. Makes a ton of sense.

Tice found Linehand working as OC in college (Louisville, I think). I really think most coaches are better suited for either NFL or college, typically not both. Linehan has been in the college game and wouldn't be the first NFL coach to find success in college. Whehter he would ... I have no idea.

This just makes way too much sense to actually happen.

Totally forgot about Jagodzinski. He'd be a good hire.

Yes, hire Jeff Jagod immediately

... but be sure to add some verbiage in his contract to prevent interviews with the NFL :p

Cross off Linehan. No chance in hell. Linehan is an NFL guy.

You mean outside of the 13 years he spent as a college assistant, including time as the offensive coordinator at the University of Washington and Louisville?? So, for the record, he's been an "NFL guy" for 8 years and a "college guy" for 13 years.

I wouldn't say no chance in hell. I know he enjoyed living in Minneapolis. If he wants to be a head coach again, the Big Ten would be a good place to land.

Chryst would never come here.

Really? Is that why he expressed a ton on interest last time? He isn't stupid. He'd take this job in about one second if it was offered. As akgopher said, he and Maturi have a relationship. I think that worked against Chryst last time, I'm not sure it would this time. Joel might say to hell with it.

Cross off Frazier. No chance in hell.

I agree, but it won't stop people from throwing his name out there.

I just don't know if Frazier would be a fit. Not questioning his football smarts, but college and the pros are so totally different. I hope the next guy we hire is someone who has been deeply involved in a college program at some point in their career.

I think Darrell Bevell's name will pop into the conversation at some point, as well. Forgot him earlier.

Frazier has never had to deal with the entire process of handling a team. Coordinators are much more X's and O's types of guys, and I think it would be kind of a leap to go from Coordinator in the NFL to Head Coach in college, there is just so much more to the particular job.

As far as Jagodzinski, he could make sense, but I really feel like he is more of an NFL guy. I know that phrase has seemed to irk some people on this board, but I do think it's the case. He also seems to have some issues with the people he has worked with. You have to remember he was fired at the end of training camp last year by Tampa Bay and he also had the strange dismissal with BC. There just seems to be a lot of smoke and instability around this guy.

Jeff Jagodzinski was fired by Tampa Bay as their offensive coordinator because he was not getting the plays in fast enough. He was also getting the formations wrong. Not saying he would not be a candidate...but he needs to be completely researched before being hired. The Bucs said that he had a great resume but they wished they had done some deeper research and called around. There is a reason he is coaching where he is currently. Again, he maybe a good candidate but weight the positives and the negatives here.

why not add:
Bud Grant
Lou Holz
Bobby Stoops
Jerry Burns

Coach Brewster is not going anywhere-let him finish the job.

Jeff Jagod is a GREAT choice.. NO TO TICE.. good that he isn't a college grad.. would be a buffoon like Brew

I tend to agree.....If he was offered the right amount of money & contract, why wouldn't Chryst be interested?

One name I've thought of: Mark Richt.

You'd say I'm crazy. I'd say you're right. But why would Tubby Smith leave Kentucky for a place like Minnesota? Just thinking of "guys we have no business having as our coach that actually are realistic." Blast away, posters!

If he brings his current Offensive Coordinator with then I think he has to be the leading canidate for the job.
