Wow - the team I watched Purdue beat the other day went down and beat Tennessee in exhibition. Maybe I spoke too soon on that one. But I still think there's a reasonable chance that Purdue will finish 6th. Just a lot of good teams there to compete with.

I watched part of Purdue's exhibition - I went in thinking they could still be a top-25 and possibly Sweet 16 team, came out thinking they aren't. Sorry. I don't think it's going to happen for Purdue this year. Painter would have to do a masterful job to get this team back to the Sweet 16.

When they lost Hummel last year, they still had a very good senior leader in Kramer, and they had a quality senior guard in Keaton Grant who moved into the starting lineup. Now the replacement for Hummel is gone (and none of the possible replacements has had the career that Grant had prior to him being put in the starting lineup), plus they have to replace Kramer as well. Purdue this year is IMO like a Ponzi scheme - they look good now because they're rated highly and they haven't played anyone for real so no one has had a close look at the books, but they will collapse when the going gets rough. I think OSU, MSU, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin will all finish ahead of Purdue this year.

You are reading WAY too much into the first game of the season, that doesn't even count. Let the team spend some time together gel a little bit a play a meaningful game or three before you rush to any conclusions. That goes for every team in the college basketball. Otherwise we might as well crown champions right now and not waste our time playing the season.

Because this is actually what I like about the basketball board. We have Wisconsin, MSU, Illinois, Purdue, OSU, etc. fans that post here and it isn't like the football board where they get harassed or where they do the harassing. It actually works well and is nice to have the opinions of people not wearing maroon and gold glasses sometimes and makes the conversation that much better considering it seems to happen in a civil way. It is very refreshing to see that, at least before the games start, we can actually talk about college basketball without it being a huge pee contest.

Generally civil. I for one do not mind the visitors. Discussions/comments about teams the Gophers play makes double check my perspective, and many times makes me keep a my expectations realistic. Those gold colored glasses have a tendency to blur the view.

I think all the non-Gopher fans on this board are pretty cool. Minus that LakeBison dude. Where do Purdue fans post? I guess I don't know any of the other Big Ten message boards. They might be a fun read, any link would be appreciated.

Probably lots of other boards. These are some possibilities (not as good as Gopherhole). The boards are only as good as the posters. Have read, that at some schools most of the posters frequent the the pay sites.

The best Purdue message board is the Rivals, Gold & Black.com But because it is a Rivals site there is a lot of worthless crap being posted. The key is being able to ignore the crap and focus on the good stuff.
