JB Bickerstaff Named NBA COY

Gophers were headed toward the NCAA Tournament in 2000-01 in Monson’s second season until both Bickerstaff and Michael Bauer went down with season-ending injuries.

During that season, this game was really one of the all time classics that I ever got to see at the Barn.

I thought the future was bright, both short and long term, walking out of Williams Arena that afternoon.

Not even in the Top 2 under Monson.
How is losing your best players to injury relatively early in the Big Ten season a choke job?

I assume he’s thinking of the next year, Rickert’s freshman year, which was an actual choke job.

Agree.

Yes, the next 2 were much more massive.

Rickert's Soph season they also moonwalked away from the NCAA Tournament by dropping their last 4 Big 10 Regular Season games. They finished it off by getting drilled by Northwestern in the Big 10 Tournament.

Every now and then someone will make a comment like the bolded portion. I've never understood that. Educate me.

Not many coaches can triple a teams win total from one year to the next, then to the 1 seed. Got me pulling for Detroit from the East. Well deserved

JB's the opposite of Doc Rivers. He gets the absolute most difficult coaching opportunities and every team he coaches vastly improves.

He took over Memphis after Fisdale was fired and improves the team by 11 wins in his first (and only) season in Memphis.

He took over post-Lebron Cleveland for John Bielein and brought them from the worst team in the league to the playoffs.

He took over a Detroit team that won 14 games (worst in the league) the year before he arrived and made them a #1 seed.
