I think it would be very interesting to do an analysis on the transfer portal comparing:

  • Elite producers at lower levels / smaller programs moving up
  • Elite prospects from high resource P5 programs who didn't get playing time

These are the two archetypes that a wide swath of FBS is recruiting in the Portal, including Minnesota. I'm curious to know if one type has performed better at their next stop.

I feel like we’ve had some good success with both. Definitely seem to be brining in fewer of the elite prospects from big P5 programs. We’ve put two in the NFL in Williamson and St Juste. Jack Gibbens probably has been the best from the lower levels.

Jack Henderson and Trevon Jones were both pretty good last year. Lower level.

Beanie Bishop turned out to be the big whiff. He was all-conference at Western Kentucky, was underutilized here, then heads off to become 1st team All America at WVU.

I wonder if Corey Crooms and Elijah Spencer would have been bigger impact players with a QB who worked through his reads better. One major stat that explained the AK era was that the Gophers completed passes to fewer receivers than the opponent in every game he started, win or lose.
 

Looks like P.J. wants to pass, and complete them, a lot more in '24.

I feel like Bishop played a lot here. We did have T Smith and Walley that he had to compete with. Bishop almost for sure would’ve seen even more reps had he stuck here. Bummer he didn’t stick around, but I question whether it was really play time related like he says unless he was bitter he didn’t get as much time his first year here as he wanted.

That was more hopeful than practical. ;)

Don't remember P.J. bringing in a lot of Quarterbacks and/or Wideouts from the portal who saw playing time elsewhere.

It would have been interesting to see if transfers if Ryan Stapp had announced his retirement first.
 




6'1 and 180lbs...love to see him put on some weight and get closer to 200lbs.

Jeez, yeah that kinda wild. He must be a SUPER lean guy, basically all muscle, because I'm only 2 inches taller, about 30lbs heavier, and I still look pretty scrawny/lanky and not at all like an athlete in their prime.
 


That makes 2 each of WR, RB, and CB with 1 QB.

I like the depth and talent that these guys bring. As happy as I am to have these guys I can’t help but worry about DL/OL and young talent choosing to transfer out. The staff has proven they can bring in the players they need so maybe I worry about those things more than they do currently.

He doesn't need to throw a lot more--just complete a lot more, as you say. It would help, if he felt enough confidence in the psasing game to throw more when either a run or pass were indicated by situation. Would make our offense less predictable and harder to defend.

Hell, what about LB, that was our biggest depth issue all year with the injuries. Starting walk-on redshirt freshman to end the year. OL seems pretty set to be honest, but DL and LB could use some more talent.
 

Emporia State? Are we recruiting any of his teammates.....like the Lion, the Witch, or the Wardrobe?
 





Has this been a confirmed scholarship or PWO?
