Yes. Doesn’t need to be a mismatch like the Penn St player from last year but solid enough to help out the run game in case Drakes receivers are not a solid group this year.

Good point. Glad we don’t have a guy like Tyler Warren who needs to be a mismatch. He didn’t do much for that offense.

He looked lost the majority of his college career. Very underachieving. Maybe someone woke him up.

Fair enough :). I just meant don't think he's as talented or do we have the offensive play calling catered to create a mismatch for a tight end. Use our tight ends mostly for blocking but take some pressure off the receivers as we don't have a Daniel Jackson anymore.

Warren had over 100 catches and 1200 yards. Not sure that’s a system reason. If it is, it’s a helluva system

But it is a system and development. Remember Pat Friermuth dominated here in 2019. They are uber talented as well but do you think we have the creativity to get a a tight end the ball like Penn St has? I don’t. See Spann-Ford.

Talent and system. Fleck hasn't had a lot of NFL talent and when he did, he didn't seem to utilize it. BSF had his issues but the talent was there. Keft was and and still is Keft, a glorified blocking TE.

Geers? Could he become a Iowa type productive TE? Only is Fleck trusts him.

We don’t have a tight end like that. It isn’t creativity. You’re talking top end talent in the nation.

Once again Spann-Ford was one of the top returning tight ends and did nothing the following year. Even Iowa finds the way to get the ball to them. I doubt Warren would have had half the numbers if he played here last year.

Tyler is super talented, but his high usage rate was a product of Penn State not having very good wr's!
 


Geers is talented and from all accounts a great teammate.

He will definitely need to cut down on drops.

He has a chance to be a 40-50 reception guy with 6-8 TDs if he does that.

given the only time we've seen us force feed a player the ball was 2020 (Bateman) and that guy averaged 7 catches in 5 games and Warren averaged over 8 touches a game, yeah not real surprising to say he wouldn't have had half the numbers in terms of catches. Absolutely think he would have 600 yards as he did most of his damage out of the slot/on short routes, which is something Brosmer loved to throw. 2023 catching from AK, yeah he would've been lucky to scratch 400 yards which is a product of the QB play moreso than an indictment on BSF.

If you're saying we would've changed Warren the player to be a blocking TE, then yes that is fair. If he's let be the same dude and play slot (something BSF truthfully just never could do)

then every team in the country should've been able to double and triple team him, which they did. And yet he still torched numerous teams. We all knew watching us play them he was getting the ball and they still couldn't stop him. there's a reason he was 7th in the Heisman voting (first TE to be in the voting since 1977 aside from Pitts in the COVID season)

AK was throwing hard on the short routes BSF was assigned, and they weren’t accurate enough to be catchable. Having a different QB that threw with touch may have allowed him to repeat his very good 2022 year.

Dude could've had an 80 catch season in 2023 if we didn't plop a Katyusha rocket truck behind center that year.

I feel like he was, especially his last season. Maybe he was hyped too much.
