james green is golden

Welcome to MN

Good news ... hope we hear more good news this week-end!

Welcome to Gopher Nation Mr. Green. Hopefully your word means something.

This is awesome. A big receiver is something we really need with the departure of Decker. His Rivals recruiting ranking last year was 5.9, which would put him tied with Carter, Gray, and Carpenter as the highest-rated recruits in Brew's tenure.

It's sad that I was sitting here going, "Carpenter? Who the hell is Carpenter?" Then I remembered. If Gray does end up at the WR position, which is still unlikely, we could have one of the top reciever corps in all of football by 2011.

Wow, that was quick. Great start to hopefully a big recruiting weekend. Welcome to the U James!

I like it when guys from Florida commit during the cold winter month visits lol

Does James Green have all 4 yrs of eligibility remaining? On Rivals he is listed as a JC December grad, but elsewhere I have read that he grayshirted this year.

Great also that he will be here for spring practice.

This is the best news we have had around here for awhile. Hopefully it keeps up.

This kid'll fit perfectly into Chucky Amato's new schemes.

From everything I heard it was an ACT test score issue. He retook it and didn't go to JC. Another nice thing about this commit is that because he's a gray shirt he counts against last years class and leaves us with another schollie this year.

i don't think he counts against our last years class. he could have if he stayed with Tennessee. Besides I don't think there's any room in our last years class. Which is why we have our gray shirts are counting against this years numbers.

I could be mistaken about the gray shirt. I'll gladly take him in either class!

What are the odds he is just another brew Juco recruit aka another carpenter or Pittman?

Pretty low considering he will be here for spring ball and will apparently have 4 years of eligibility.

Also, please look at all of Brew's Juco recruits before making an ignorant statement like this. Carpenter and Pittman (and Sharpe) have been busts, but McKinley, Simmons, Lawrence have been major contributors, Brock had one very good year, and Wills and even Carpenter at least have another season to have an impact.

Welcome to Gopher Nation James Green, we can't wait to see you on the field.

Great offer list last year...I think the most important part is he will be here (ostensibly) for spring practice. I was annoyed that Hayo took so long to get here last year; it seemed like he though he could show up in mid-August and still claim is All Big Ten First Team award.

These guys have got to get in the system to be effective -- that was one of the major reasons we struggled against SDSU and Iowa -- we were missing Brandon Green and Eric Decker for most or all of those games. As much as I love Troy and McKnight they are not polished route runners.

Great pick up!!! We got him out of SEC country over some very solid SEC offers...it also proves that Brew can land 4-star recruits from a warm climate state during a cold weekend without a long term contract so Brew is dispelling a lot of barriers.

Go Gophers!!

This was a very important pickup, actually. Gopher football fans have not had too much to cheer for the last month or so and it really looked like everything was going against us for awhile there. Maybe this will help turn the tide. Very positive signing - I think he is a guy who could really help us out a lot next year.

OK, Green isn't a JUCO people. He like Gray didn't qualify and sat out a year and has already qualified this year. He has all 4 years of eligibility left. Jeremy Crabtree (rivals recruiting guru) said he will count towards this years rankings because he hasn't played in a year it is rivals policy that he dropps a star. So he will be rated a (5.7) 3* player. Nothing about him compares to Hayo as a WR. Two totally different receiver's.

Thanks for clearing that up 5 star. Interesting policy to drop him a star because he hasn't played. I suppose there is some sense in that but whatever, I'm going to tout him with last years rankings.

let's hope kent (mpls tribune) and marcus (st. paul pioneer press) follow up their decommit articles with an article noting this 4-star WR pick-up by brew & co. :)

Nice pick up guys. I'm sure that reduces the sting of all those decommits. Those blow.

It's sounding unlikely, but this would be a tremendous year for recruiting WR's for us if Hawkins stays loyal. They sound like perfect compliments to eachother (Hawkins the burner and Green the rugged, possesion guy).

this would be a tremendous year

Coach Brew? J/k...I agree 100%. WR is clearly an area of need (as is most every position on offense, to be honest), so it'd be awesome if both these kids stayed committed!
