There’s no sugarcoating it, though. This was one of the worst seasons in program history, given preseason expectations and their start to the year. Injuries, without question, sabotaged the year, and were the number one reason for the Gophers’ demise. No team could endure the injuries Minnesota had and expect to compete.
It would be foolish, however, to suggest injuries tell the whole story. Even had they stayed healthy, roster construction and off-the-court issues remained, and raised legitimate questions about the direction of the program moving forward.
Minnesota has enough incoming and returning talent to right the ship quickly next year. After what happened this season, there will be significant, and justifiable, pressure on everyone affiliated with the program to produce a swift turnaround.
