Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones

Can anyone help me with this, Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor have said they like the idea to play in college together, just took a visit to Duke together. My question is even though in my mind the chances of getting Jones to go to the Gophers is slim and none, WHY have we not offered Okafor?
 

Many media members have said that we have offered him ...
 

I'm sure we also offered LeBron out of HS, maybe even KG since he spent his senior year in the Midwest.

I think we have offered him. In an interview once, I'm pretty sure he said both Tyus and him had been offered by Minnesota.
 

We offered him, but a mutual decision was made and now he's looking elsewhere
 




Okafor's been offered & Tubby/Tyus have been working to get a visit from him.
 

so maybe the "offer" to Edozie was just a ploy to get Okafor nervous about us not having room for him?? Tubby's playin chess while the rest of us play checkers.
 



Tyus was asked if he would like to play with Okafor he said yes. Was he supposed to say no. Does not mean at all that Tyus puts a high priority on signing with same team.
 


I've read from multiple different recruiting sites and articles that we have in fact offered him. Only about 5 or 6 teams have offered them both.

since we have not offered him according to rivals, espn, chris monter, hoopscoop, i guess someone needs to tell tubby that he is wasting his time with tyus unless he also offers okafor. I say less than 50/50 they end up on same team
 

If we don't finish in the top of the Big 10 and make a serious run in the NCAA tourney we are wasting our time on both. Have to show something to get something.

That is what I believed, it seems that each would have to pursue a spot that provided the most benefit to to themselves, which utimately might be the same school and could be altogether different, not only from the basketball perspective, but education and the social aspects also. Since they are visiting schools together though, they might be serious about playing together, and there might be a much better than 50/50 chance they end up at the same school.

Or they may enjoy spending the weekend together on the school's dime. Lots of kids take the trips without ever intending on going to the school so they can see pals and family.

I've heard media members say we have offered Okafor (although I can't cite who/when) & remember someone (Ryan James?) saying that Tubby's been quietly working on Okafor for some time & that Tyus & he are trying to get him in for a visit. They said the visit might happen, but not likely as an "official". Saying Okafor doesn't have an offer is weak sauce. Obviously if Okafor wanted to come here we'd find a scholarship for him, he's the #1 big-man in the nation, that's clearly not what's holding up the visit. I still think these two kids publicly stating they intend to play on the same team in college over-and-over again is a stronger indicator than your hunch.

Nailed it. To repeat: THERE IS NO CHANCE OKAFOR COMES TO MINNESOTA. A top five recruit has never committed to an average BCS school before if it's not his hometown team, favorite team growing up, parent's alma mater, or AAU connection.

There is a chance Tyus comes to Minnesota for many reasons that have been discussed in this thread. Remember, it's not like there's a zero percent chance Tyus and Jahilil will play at different schools. They will do what's best for them, whether that be to play with their best friend top 5 recruit, or not.
 

I just asked Ryan James across the street at GI if Okafor has an offer? For those that don't know, Ryan James is probably the most plugged in local basketball guy around & he contributes to GI (plus posts here sometimes), but you can also follow him on Twitter & get lot's of premium stuff as well. He said "Yes the Gophers have offered Jahlil Okafor a scholarship. They and about 40 others. He basically has so many he quit listing them all.". He also went on to say that they were trying to get Okafor in for a visit in the fall & it's not happening, that they'll try again for spring, but don't hold your breath.

To get back on point here with this thread. We have offered Okafor or at the very least he understands he's got one if he wants one. Tyus & Okafor have a serious bromance going on & have been saying they will play together in college for months now.

My personal opinion is we have no real shot at Tyus. The only shot we have is the fact that his family is here & that his brother went away to school & ended up transferring home after having it not work out. I think Tyus (and Okafor) is headed to somewhere drivable for his family i.e. Not Duke or UNC. Maybe Mich St? Maybe Kentucky?

I think we have a real shot with Vaughn & Travis.
