Jacques Perra transfering

If going to MIAc, why not consider Saint John's in Collegeville?

Clements outdoor stadium is beautiful out there especially in the Fall when the leaves turn colors.

More importantly, they play football up there like it was meant to be played without any TV or commercial interruptions. Any of the MIAC schools are good landing spots.

I don't think Division III give out football scholarships, but I am sure they can find other means of financial scholarships or grants.

Class kid. Can't help but root for him! Wish him all the best!

I hate to see him go, but I wish him well. I'm interested to see how he does elsewhere.

Selfishly I hate seeing more depth at the QB position walk out the door but can certainly understand him wanting to go somewhere that he is likely to see game action. Hopefully things work out well for him wherever he ends up next.

It takes a certain mentality to be able to accept being a back-up. These players are all competitors, and they want to play. only certain athletes have the maturity to understand and accept the coaches' decisions about playing time, hang in there, work hard at practice every day, and watch from the sidelines on game day, knowing you probably are not going to get into the game unless a starter is injured, or the team is either winning or losing by a huge margin.

I think it's fair to say that anyone on the Gopher roster would likely be starting or starring at an FCS or DII school. It comes down to a matter of choice. Some kids would rather be a backup at D1 - some kids would rather be starting at a lower level.

Jacques is, at minimum, FCS talent. He should go FCS so he doesn't have to sit out a year. He could light it up in the right program.

South Dakota was his only scholarship offer coming out of high school. I'm not sure he'll get any better looks this time around.

Nah, he'll end up at St. Thomas.

Did he actually think he would play? No offense, but QB is one of those positions I hope we don't use a WO for.

Good now people on here can stop talking about him every time Leidner throws an INT.

There will always be another guy we know nothing about who is the next Joe Montana .... he just hasn't looked like it in practice enough to beat out the starter...

Good luck to him; at least much better luck than past transfers have received.

I've never seen fan infatuation with a walk on QB like what has been on this site over the last year.

It really has been amazing to watch. I think it was fueled in large part (especially two seasons ago) by high level of frustration with the offense and the idea that anybody has to be better then the starter but yeah it has been really interesting the level of obsession some fans have had with a guy that had no other FBS offers. Not saying he couldn't have gotten the job done if given the opportunity but I definitely don't think it was a slam dunk that he was destined for stardom like some on this board seemed to think he was.

I get the frustration, but is that with the players or the scheme? I do the standard eye-roll when a player screws up, but I have laid off Leidner (and Nelson and Gray before him) because I think that the Kill/Limegrover approach to the passing game rivaled Woody Hayes' in terms of inventiveness. We'll see what happens with Johnson at the throttle.

Do we still have Conor Rhoda as a 3rd QB, or will there be a risk of pulling the likely redshirt off Seth Green?

Well you don't have to pull the shirt until he hits the field I don't think so doesn't matter in the meantime.

I can't imagine Rhoda would ever be anything more than an emergency option, if even that. At this point we have 3 true options at the QB position heading into next year. A Senior with a lot of experience, a relatively untested Sophomore, and a True Freshman. Hopefully it works out for Green to redshirt next season unless he just steps on campus and blows everyone away.

Agree - that Baker Mayfield would not fit in well here.

Also, weren't the Gophers Leidner's only scholarship offer? So if Mitch would've came here as the exact same player, but as a PWO instead of on scholarship, how would that have changed things? You wouldn't feel comfortable with it?

He had d1 offers. He chose to walk on over that. Not exactly the same thing. And to the second part, that's like saying what if Tom Brady was a walk on? Well he's not. So you can't really make that argument. Both sides are hyperbole. You assume you find a good qb with your scholarship offers. If a walk on is a stud (incredibly rare), then yes obviously he'd play

I'm sure he's a great kid and all. But the obsession with him here reminded me of those who demanded that Gino Toretta could have been the Viking savior at QB if only he would be given a shot. All because he won a preseason game one time.

That's the stupidest comment ever on this forum. With the new OC and O line coach there won't be any more interceptions. Jeesh!

This sucks- somewhat. It is not good to lose QB depth- we have not had QB depth* since the Mason years.

*By depth, I mean warm bodies to take snaps that are not true freshman.

With transfer rules being the way they are now, many teams lack the full stable of scholarship QBs that was the norm years ago

Can't stand when people cherrypick an example of a rare case like Mayfield and use it to somehow imply that it happens all the time.

True, but it's not like we've cycled through a lot of QBs, and I'm not sure any have really shown themselves to be stepping up beyond Mitch, but .... would be nice to have warm bodies.

Maybe Streveler gets back in the mix as a QB / WR warm body.
