Did anyone read Andy Greders article regarding PJs update on status of 4 star true freshman QB? I can’t read the article without subscribing to Pioneer Press.

The Gophers are investing in him now to reap future dividends.
The depth chart behind Lindsey is what head coach P.J. Fleck and staff are working on right now. In a departure from bringing in only one quarterbacks in previous recruiting cycles, the Gophers are working to bring in multiple QBs in its 2026 recruiting class.

Since July 2024, Downers Grove, Ill., QB Owen Lansu has been committed to the U’s incoming class. In years past, that would have been it, but now a U priority is to bring in another signal caller before national signing day on Dec. 3.
One target is Lafayette, La., prospect Cole Bergeron. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder has been committed to Virginia Tech since August, but he visited Minnesota this month. Recruiting site 247Sports has given Bergeron a three-star grade of 89, while Lansu also has three-star mark of 86.
The Hokies fired coach Brent Pry in September and replaced him on Monday with former Penn State coach James Franklin. That development could complicate the Gophers’ pursuit of the Bergeron.
But the Gophers are believed to be exploring multiple QB options, and that initial deadline is just two weeks.
Reasoning for bringing in two quarterbacks includes cost. Given Lindsey’s development, he will likely get a raise in compensation from the U’s revenue sharing as well as NIL opportunities. And transfer quarterbacks are expensive in the portal, so Minnesota — which doesn’t have deep pockets — wants to lean into development of younger players.
Seeking a backup for the 2025 season, the Gophers brought in transfer Emmitt Morehead from Old Dominion after Georgia Tech transfer Zach Pyron left the U after only spring semester. But Morehead was then beat out for the backup job by walk-on Max Shikenjanski, who again stepped in for Lindsey during the fourth quarter of the 42-13 blowout loss at Oregon on Friday.
Dylan Wittke, a second-year transfer from Virginia Tech, is the third-stringer and has only played in one game — the blowout win over Northwestern (La.) State. So, it would not be surprising if Wittke left the U this winter along with Morehead.
Then there is true freshman Jackson Kollock. The three-star product from Laguna Beach, Calif., is redshirting this season and has been running the scout team offense.
Fleck said Kollock has won the Gophers’ scout team player of the week award several times this fall. Fleck credited Kollock for adjusting to a move halfway across the country and adapting to the college game.
“I think he’s done a really good job of that,” Fleck told the Pioneer Press on Monday. “He’s developed a ton since he walked in here. So, really proud of his progress, and would love for him just to continue to stay steadfast on that.”

The Gophers already have a quarterback commitment for its 2027 class: three-star prospect Furian Inferrera from powerhouse Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. The 6-foot-3 player, who flipped to the U from Boston College, missed most of his junior season with an injury.

Bergeron is a lean toward VT now with Franklin named as head coach I just read. We’ll see if PJ can pull some magic and get some more talent in that QB room

I don't know if he is a fallback if Bergeron flips, but Mission Hills (CA) 3-star QB Troy Huhn is listed as "warm" for Virginia Tech. Franklin recruited him when he was at Penn State. Huhn's offer list is more impressive than Bergeron's, but that may be a function of Bergeron committing to Virginia Tech in August.

To add-on, 4 star composite on 247 and rivals, previously committed to Penn State. Signs seem to point to VT

Main question is: Are any of these QBs mobile? Or are we one dimensional like always?
We aren’t always one dimensional, but it also is funny that people think a mobile qb is the cure all. Bergeron looks pretty impressive to me and seems to have not great, but some mobility.

Lindsey has gotten better over the past couple of weeks about realizing when he has to give up on the routes and tuck it and go, but he doesn't look like a gazelle out there so any gains on busted plays will likely be minimal. That's not his game, so we live with it. I believe what many of us who value better mobility (and we may value it too much) want to see more flexibility in the QB when the play breaks down.

Maybe Lindsey can do that with more experience and it surely doesn't help that our WR corps has little speed. What I've noticed when we play the top dogs is that their defense just creeps up because they know they aren't getting beat deep. That shuts off running lanes and with the O-line playing as inconsistently as it is, good defenses are often on top of Lindsey before he can make any decision, much less a decision to run.

This. Also when the QB is forced to throw it, the receivers aren't very far down field. It's almost like we are playing redzone offense all over the field.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the QB room in the off season. There is so much volatility at that position with guys moving all over the place in search of playing time. You hope guys on the roster will want to stick around and keep developing but seems like some movement is inevitable.

Really difficult to have quality depth at the QB position in this current landscape.

No trying to refute anything you've written, 2 of the last 3 opponents have really good defenses, but the number are kind of striking when you look at them in order, and yes, sacks count as rushing yards:

Pretty shocking to see someone with -1 rushing yards, and 2 rushing TDs (MSU).

Yes. Unlike the pros, sacks are considered rushes in college. I remember arguing with a high school classmate about that in the early-1970s.

Most of our passing game recently has been the attempt to simulate a running game. The short passes/screens are because of how poorly the O-line has played outside of the Nebraska game.

AAK was mobile. Really nice kid, too. Spent a little time at the State Fair with my son back in the day. Made my son's day. He didn't need to do that.
Yes, and yes. He was a true run threat. He was also a class act. Looking back, we've had many great ambassadors at QB. During the dome era, we fans often times had a more access. With that said, I got to see many of the players interact with fans especially children. That is one part of being a Gophers fan that has made me proud.
