"Howard Pulley at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam
Howard Pulley went 1-1 yesterday in South Carolina, beating the Mac Irvin Fire 84-69 and losing to CIA Bounce 83-69. Early Friday morning, Pulley beat Julius Randle and the Texas Titans 74-65.
The Fire's Jabari Parker is out with a foot injury, but they're still loaded with talent and dominated the Minnesota team on the boards (52% offensive rebounding percentage). However, Pulley heavily outshot their opponent to get the win (eFG: Pulley 64%, Fire 45%). Anders Broman lead the way with 20 points and 6/11 three-point shooting while Jake Wright, Tyus Jones and Quinton Hooker added 18, 15 and 14, respectively.
For the Fire, Kyle Davis had 20 points, but no one else had more than 10. Big man Jalil Okafor scored 4 points to go along with 8 rebounds and Gopher targets Sterling Brown and Gavin Schilling had 6 & 7 and 10 & 8, respectively.
In the second game of the day, a strong performance from Tyus Jones helped Pulley take a one point lead into the half against an excellent CIA Bounce team, but the Panthers couldn't keep it going in the second half.
Future pro Andrew Wiggins had 22 points and 11 boards, while Xavier Rathan Mayes added 17 points for the Canadian team.
Tyus Jones finished with 30 points on 12/18 shooting (3/3 3FG) and added 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Anders Broman continued to hit the deep shot, going 5/10 from long range.
Earlier this morning, Pulley withstood the attack of superstar Julius Randle (31 points, 17 rebounds), once again thanks to their best two players Tyus Jones (27 points, 8 assists, only 2 turnovers) and Anders Broman (19 points, 4/6 3FG).
Now 2-1 at the Peach Jam, Howard Pulley looks ahead to tonight's match up against the Wisconsin Playground Elite and Marquette-bound Duane Wilson. With two games remaining in pool play, the Minnesota squad has a solid chance of advancing to the Peach Jam quarterfinals tomorrow night.
