Did they decide their insulated sort of setup wasn't working anymore?
They going to add formal scholarships?
And the Frozen Four. Overall, this is a good thing for FCS football. Now if the MEAC and SWAC would do the same, it would provide an influx of talent to the lower division.I never understood why Ivys never participated in the FCS Playoffs, but March Madness was totally fine.
It wouldn't have an impact, but there are scholarship limits and rules that are different outside the Ivy. It's going to be interesting. With their massive endowments (hedge funds with dorms), the Ivies typically give very substantial financial aid for the non-rich. I doubt that athletic scholarships would have much impact. We'll see, but I'm guessing the Ivy league is a big step up from the Pioneer League.
I like this decision. Could they actually give the Dakota Football League some competition?
I'm curious what students pushed for it .... I've watched their games on TV. Nobody is there, often even for the "big" games.Students pushed for it is my understanding.
They should compete fairly well in FCS. Not sure anyone can compete with the Dakotas and Montana.
By comparison, Rhode Island beat New Hampshire by more than Harvard did.
Student athletes that is.I'm curious what students pushed for it .... I've watched their games on TV. Nobody is there, often even for the "big" games.
I'm wondering if this is folks advocating for change that they don't even participate in?
Maybe it was just players?
I'm guessing it's because of "follow the money", just guessing.Did they decide their insulated sort of setup wasn't working anymore?

I really wish the Ivy's had not participated in the 1989 Frozen Four. And the Frozen Four. Overall, this is a good thing for FCS football. Now if the MEAC and SWAC would do the same, it would provide an influx of talent to the lower division.

Civic Center. Skarda. OT. Clank.
Does FCS really ... get you more money?I'm guessing it's because of "follow the money", just guessing.

I don't believe the Ivies will ever give out athletic scholarships. They give out scholarships based on financial need--and a great many athletes (and students) qualify for partial or complete "needs based" scholarships. But you don't get a scholarship from an Ivy (you might get a third-party funded scholarship) if your family can pay the freight.Did they decide their insulated sort of setup wasn't working anymore?

If for some reason Ivy teams started dominating I wonder what the other FCS teams operating under scholarship limits. Meanwhile Ivy teams with "no scholarships" have their players ... almost all of them qualify for "full ride" income based scholarships.I don't believe the Ivies will ever give out athletic scholarships. Interesting angle: what if the folks who have contributed so heavily to Ivy endowments start up NIL Collectives (apart from the schools) at Ivy colleges? Might have a situation in which non-scholarship student athletes (owing to family income or wealth) nevertheless receive big NIL payments to attend an Ivy. Could deepen the pool of talent available to the Ivies.

I thought I understood that the "reason" (claimed) for not doing it was that the football post-season schedule interfered with finals. And the Frozen Four. It's certainly different, but the advantage sounds similar to the old Nebraska system where they would put football players on scholarship for other sports. Their football scholarships were limited by rule ... but they could still get far more players who played football under a scholarship of some kind.Cornell offers athletic scholarships for wrestling. But also lots of wrestlers on full need based scholarships. Quite the advantage to have both.

NCAA eventually decided that practice was not allowed.
