So whats an unacceptable record in your book for 2026? One that will deserve a firing.
To me, the really poor showing on the field this year (not in the win/loss column) was disappointing primarily because there was zero reason the team that curb stomped Nebraska couldn't have played more competitively for 60 minutes against Michigan State and Purdue. Nebraska, for all their flaws was better than both of those teams.
Throw in the play not to lose against Cal and losing, and failing to get off the bus against Iowa and I get the we need to make a change. But like Fleck's failure to change his best, pulling in a new coach without addressing fundamental issues with the athletic department, is insanity.
Fleck's seat isn't warm. It's seems unlikely that we'll end up playing 4 of the five worst teams in the B1G based on the schedule, so I expect without a major improvement on the O-line and DT's health, we could be better next year and still have a lessor record.
He's not going anywhere unless he has a massive breakout season and wins the B1G, a major off field scandal is uncovered, Coyle leaves and the new AD wants to hire his "guy", runs three or four bad seasons in a row, or he retires.
Personally I think we could do better, but if we'd hired someone like Cignetti, he's be gone after next year for greener pastures (he not as stupid as Kiffen) without a fundamental change in the mindset of the leadership at the U.
So set minimums if you want, it doesn't matter. Fleck's our Coach and will be for the foreseeable future.
