It's time for a change.

Let's be honest, the U doesn't have the best track record in hiring coaches. I think a lot of it is the fear of "what if they hire another Tim Brewster?"
Or "what if they hire another Smokey Joe Salem?"

It is weird for me utter the word patience when we're in year ten. But I need to remind myself (and others) that we're doing something right now I've wanted for 25 years, and that is finally converting to a modern offense driven by a legit big boy Quarterback. We've now had two really good QBs back to back and Morgan who is maybe the best as far as numbers but not pure talent, not long before that.

I believe we have three or four very solid WRs right now, and clearly they recruited some track stars to finally generate separation and more importantly, start making all those bubbles that Drake masterfully places turn into big hitters.

Along with this is a change in how you're going to evaluate offensive lineman. And the big hogs we had when we were running it 60% of the time not only needed time to adjust, but some just aren't a fit for that. It's where I was seeing the issues the last couple years with what many view as Brian Callahan suddenly can't coach. That is false. The whole unit is undergoing a change. Everyone. RBs now need to be able to catch the ball as well as they run it. TEs must be versatile, vertical threats. We have now assembled all those pieces. Some are incoming freshman and some are in the third year of it now. We just had the best recruiting class in Gophers history for Christs sake, it's only going to get better despite the doom and gloom around here sometimes.

Now the defense on the other hand, that is straight up coaching, period. That Collins guy is in way way way over his head. Basically everyone regressed, some like Koi in my opinion, it was a lot. And also for me, that comes from how he was used. Dumb. Despite some of the improved sack numbers, their was a shit load of meat left on the table. To even an amateur eye, we have talent all over that defense. They underperformed at every level. If we were serious, he'd be fired or demoted and they'd give Fleck 1.5-2 million to get a big fish.

Kicker is ass and it must be remedied. Like yesterday.

And if I could have one wish from this year's portal, without question it's a big time WR for Drake. He needs an alpha. Maybe that's Smith. But Smith would be growing into that and we need one now. Drake has two more years and he is playing on Sundays. Only a blind fool wouldn't want to catch balls from him. I'm serious when I say he has some of the best touch and layered throwing skills I've ever seen. Sometimes it's almost optical illusion on tv, you see it float out and your like huh, than as the camera pans you see this young motherfu$$er threw it about three seconds ahead of his guy and just beautifully floated it out where only he gets it, I mean it's special. His ability to process for his age and run that whole ship is for me, not only the most important skill but he has it in droves. The guy we have right now can be every bit as good as Indianas stud. But those other areas need to elevate if we want to be like Indiana. Coaching on defense. Big time WR. Kicker. We win 10 next year. Let's go!

My opinion about a relatively underfunded big ten football team is not relevant to how I live my life, which you know nothing about I hope... :/

But in all seriousness you're the worst kind of sports fan. The type of fan who seriously should look elsewhere (away from the gophers) for enjoyment.

I'm gonna leave you with this: the other teams, the teams we play against, they're all trying to win too. Purdue, NW, MSU, all the teams we BEAT this year at trying their damnedest to win games. In other words winning is really really really hard and the recipe for it isn't coming from "FlaGopher23" on a sports forum.

Side note I'd love to get your mahi mahi fish tacos recipe. Old guys know how to cook!
I’m your huckleberry.

Or "what if they hire another Smokey Joe Salem?"

Smokey had an outstanding coaching track record at South Dakota and Northern Arizona. He was a great hire in theory. He was up against the Minnesota Pro Sports Cabal when it was at it's peak

Now Brew on the other hand...

I had student season tickets then. It was abysmal. I sat through all 60 game minutes of the Nebraska and Illinois beatings. Those were brutal.

Salem assembled a good coaching staff for his first year. But he didn’t have the funds or facilities to keep them and by the 4th season they were gone and he was toast.

Lots to consider, Minnesota loses final 2 games, season is very similar to Masons last. The start over guys have that, the U hired “Brew”, the stay the course guys can point to that.
Minnesota transfer portal and recruiting, the last 3 years, according to the recruiting services are nearly identical with Indiana, no matter the NIL, it’s irrelevant.
We have developed a good number of pros the last couple years, should the Gophers have been better the last few years, I say probably. Points to coaching, it has to. The last nine years have been better than the usual since the 60’s points to coaching as well.
My take is next year has to be much better or probably have to start over.
Quantify "much better."

I mean PJ is 24-21 over the last 5 years in the B10, which to me is a good sample size. That is good. Not great but good, and about as good as its been here in 60 years plus.

I would be willing to bet half the people who want to switch coaches just desire an offseason of whining about a coaching search.

Look if there is a better coach (or a coach with decent pedigree who has potential) who wants the job you can discuss making a move. I have zero interest in the bs that goes along with a coaching search when we aren't bottoming out. After a few basketball debacles I am over that dreck. (Not Niko)

I see now, I thought you were an adult but sounds like you’re 15 years old, dude. Maybe your mommy should spank your little bottom for being so rude to your elders. During that magic season, as you call it, we still didn’t beat Iowa or Wisconsin. Have fun living your long life in mediocrity.
You should go be friends with the guy who fantasizes about Somalians raping my one year old daughter. You two seem to have a lot in common

Good lord man.....keep this crap out of this forum...you and the other couple morons already infested the bowl thread with your name calling and political attacks.....

So whats an unexceptable record in your book for 2026? One that will deserve a firing.
As long as we're 7-5 or better, depending on competitiveness and improved over this year, I'm not firing him. If Coyle has ducks in a row and feels the pressure maybe 5-7 or worse would pull the plug. There would need to be a big sustainable financial influence to go another direction. I don't see that.

I don't see Coyle making a move unless his own job is on the line.

Some of you don't want to hear it but it would take something like an 0-12/1-11 type season for Fleck to get fired after the 2026 season.

Would take at least two consecutive sub .500 Big Ten seasons for him to truly be on a hot seat without an off field scandal of some kind.

I agree, and I think that's reasonable with Fleck's consistency so far.

Just for once, wouldn't it be awesome to go all in on the program and give enough money for a Dream Season?

Would be an interesting strategy to save NIL funds up to make a big push one year.

Would like to see a change on the offensive side of things. Been a solid 2 years of ... ehhhhh, and we finished near the bottom of the conference in offense.

Don’t ever associate me with someone talking about rape or racist posts. You don’t know me, so keep me out of your conversation you moron.

I meant save of the funds so you can sign a bunch of good transfers in one class.
Ah got it, different approach.

I dunno if the team as a program would survive in good enough shape to make that move.

Like say you have a bunch of bad seasons because you're not paying squat, and guys start to bail ... and now you put all your chips on the table? Not sure who wants a part of that. Even if you get good guys say you miss on the QB ...

I agree with this take. If he plays Indiana tough (better than tosu and Oregon this year), as well as wins some trophy games and be competitive in others (Iowa, Michigan, Penn state, Bucky) he will have enough good will banked until 2030.

It will be interesting to see where the portal push is on the offense. I think it's going to be more athletic TE's and the ability to use one as a 3rd WR, and better WR's.

Roy, Johnson, Beers, Nelson and New RT is my expectation. Possibly move Roy to RT if you find a better LT option.

Aren't they putting Voss in at TE? I mean, that's what he's listed as. Mr. Minnesota football n all

Interesting thought. Would interest/giving increase in the program if we had an Indiana 24 season? Took cubes and guitar guy a playoff birth before giving the big bucks.

I used two r's because I wasn't sure if this site had some restriction on the proper spelling. And I'd say it's hard to have a proper argument when your position is so insane it's just not even worth debating. Would you have posted this if we make the kick and win in OT?
I have no beef with you, but it would be nice if we could act like we are friends on the board. Being part of a subculture should at least somewhat be about community. You don't have to agree, but you are both part of a small but dedicated network of people that care enough about Gopher football to monitor a message board. You'd prob like each other in person.
