It will be Marc Trestman

Please no. I'd rather just keep Brew if this is who we are considering.

More or less of a slam dunk hire than Glen Mason, whose virtues you were extolling earlier this week?

Just telling you what I'm hearing. The candidate will definately have ties to Minnesota and the University. A former asst is possible. In any list, look for that. Leach WONT be it. I still like Mason, but it won't happen.

He'll be Sid's candidate because of his "ties" to Minnesota. The guy is 54 and in his third year as a HC. I'll take older college coaches like Bellotti or Fulmer in a NY minute over Trestman, who would be the second coming of Cal Stoll.

If people here HAD to place a bet today on who they think is MOST LIKELY to be named coach I would think Frazier and Trestman would be at or near the top of the list. I'm not saying either one is my top choice but it would be a somewhat safe hire. I think both are well liked in the local media, both have a decent track record of success, and they both have the local tie that people seem to love. Also Dungy has mentioned both of them as possible choices which also seems to be a driving force.

I would love to get Leach but I think the baggage will scare Maturi away. I think Belotti would also be a great pick but I think his age may be questioned by a lot of fans and that will also scare Maturi. I really think Maturi will try and please the masses with this pick and they both will fit the bill nicely.

Personally while neither one is in my top 5 choices I would still be excited with either Frazier or Trestman. While neither one would be a slam dunk for success, I really don't see any reason to believe that either one would fail either.

What's not to like about this hire? He is everything that Brewster isn't. HC experience, great recruiter, knows the school. I think he would make the program legit immediately.

HC experience... in the CFL.

Great recruiter? He hasn't even set foot in college football since 1984!!!

Pipeline to the CFL? I can't imagine there is a recruit in the country that cares about that.

Can recruit great players out of Canada? I don't exactly see college football programs beating down the borders to get to those fantastic Canadian football recruits?

Marc Trestman would NOT make this program legit immediately, unless we are looking to continue to legitimize our standing as the laughing stock of the Big Ten.

The local ties thing bugs me to no end. Who cares?

If Leach is already out of the conversation then we should just shut the program down. Leach is the best head coach that has been mentioned on this site. That doesn't make him the best fit, but if we aren't even considering the best coaching prospect then we should just shut-er-down.

If we hire Trestman, Nils Hasselmo is behind it. He's just been biding his time, waiting for the opportunity to replace football with soccer as a flagship sport.

Why?

A big IF!, but if he ends up being the guy they hire and truly turns this program around, other than Trestman not being interested, why the hec didn't Maturi give him the nod to be our coach before the disaster he ended up hiring?

I keep hearing that influential boosters are high on this guy, and I can't for the life of me determine why. Trestman has to be the most underwhelming name floating around right now.

There is actually a rumor out there that Trestman WAS the guy last time and that Maturi was ready to hire him, but he changed course at the last minute when Brewster blew him away with his interview.

One red flag that everyone should consider is this: how many college or pro jobs have you heard Marc Trestman's name pop up for? None.

Joe Paterno had won 0 games as a head coach in a BCS conference when he was hired.

I know it's probably not what you mean, but having Trestman in the same breath as Paterno is bordering on preposterous statement territory.

It's hard for me that M men like Bob Stein, Bobby Bell and other major friends of the football as well as the Goal Line Club would be in favor of a hire like this. It would not give any creditibilty to the program as other posters have shown his recent distance from college football and recruiting.

I do remember him being a slow QB with a big windup when he threw the ball.

This guy is Bill Calahan Jr. Just say NO!!!!!!!!!!

I will honestly be stunned (and disgusted) if Marc Trestman gets the job. I have a feeling that there are just members of the media trying to will it in to happening, for some unknown reason.
