The Offensive Line is critical for Gopher Football. Plugin and play any running back all day long. They will all look good.

We cannot afford to lose the linemen that we develop in our system.
 

Why not add options in ticketing to give to a fund for NIL?
Why not have all concessions at events round up to give to NIL?
Why not add several designated donation areas in stadiums/arenas that fans can throw a few dollars into?

Im not sure if the Universities can have direct ties to the collecting of NIL money for athletes, but it seems like it would be pretty easy to get around. Raising 2-5 million in NIL funds seems pretty easy in the twin city environment.

Your last paragraph answers the big question. NIL dollars cannot be driven by the institutions. Must be from individuals and entities not directly related to the institutions!

Be interesting if someone could put together a fairly transparent organization that could solicit donations for such a cause.
 




If it’s a non profit I can deduct and is reported on a 990, I’m in for decent money!
 

FWIW - there is a new "Gopher Gridiron Radio" podcast out. The hosts spend a lot of time talking about NIL and the transfer portal.

Ryan James is very pessimistic about how NIL will impact Gopher recruiting.

Ryan seemed to be in a bad mood. criticized the Gopher FB program for the lack of access it provides.

and there was a little talk about Fleck's eye surgery. Burns was ripping on all of the conspiracy theorists.

How many top 20 classes did Wisconsin or Iowa have, even right after their best seasons??

This is just silly. There are a very limited group of schools who are capable of achieving this, and it has more to do with geography and regional culture, than anything. It is what it is.

Even consumer facing companies like Target and Best Buy are never going to sponsor individual college athletes. It makes no sense for them to do so.

Let alone companies like UHG, Ecolab, 3M, and so on.


NIL from businesses is going to be more smaller businesses that are owned/controlled by big boosters. They'll use it to make it appear more "legit" to give money to athletes. Above the table instead of under the table, but that's all it is. They have no desire to even attempt to gain anything out of their NIL's.

This is nothing more than him trying to ingratiate himself with Fleck, in the hopes of getting preferential treatment for scoops, etc. It's just business. I don't fault him in the slightest.

It's really hard to know exactly how many folks are just playing along with it like a silly meme... and how many folks really want to get into PJ's medical file.

Easy to believe all one way or all the other.

I guarantee Alabama, Texas aTm, Clemson etc....have all of this completely figured out. Everything I mentioned previously can be figured out by a third party. I would throw money in a third party collection at every stadium I walked into on campus for the athletes. Our AD needs to be very aggressive in fostering relationships in the community that can make Minnesota a top 20 NIL school.
