Per Football Scoop: North Dakota (FCS): Isaac Fruechte is being retained as offensive coordinator on Eric Schmidt's staff. A former wide receiver at Minnesota and in the NFL for the Vikings and Lions, Isaac has experience as an offensive play caller at Winona State (D-II - MN), with previous stops at Northern Iowa (FCS), Northern State (D-II), and Wisconsin-La Crosse (D-III).
Donnell Kirkwood is also being retained as RB coach.
 

Sounds like the kept the whole offensive staff and only one on defense with the new defensive minded HC back at the school.

in football terms, North Dakota has been playing second fiddle to NDSU and SDSU - and now South Dakota has taken a step forward - leaving North Dakota as a clear 4th place in the Dakota Quadrangular.

UND had some really solid years in the D2 days in the 1990's and 2000's - including a D2 Championship in 2001. But in the D1 era (either 1-AA or FCS), their best seasons have been 8-3 in 2011 and 9-3 in 2016.

I feel like they’re in the same market for players as the other 3 but grand forks is really far up there.
Fargo is too, but to me Fargo is clearly the best town of the 4.

??????? I'm also an alum of UND and it would be a waste of a game for the Gophers to schedule them. Schedule a SEC, ACC or Big12 opponent and that might be fun, exciting and/or interesting whereas UND would be none of them. Could care less about scheduling their football team and the Gophers should too.

Fargo-Brookings both nice then Grand Forks — coming in last is Vermillion.
 

No interest in seeing a Dakota school on the gopher schedule. Find a FL, TX or any decent SE school that can add value to recruiting

That’s said from an overall school perspective. USD in a lot of ways is the best. Great business school and then has a law school and a medical school along with a bunch of other degrees.

I agree, but I would say for example this year if we played all four of the teams in the FCS championship, we’d lose at least one of those games. Those teams are salty.

I mean wouldn't you rather play them then NW State, Western Illinois, and Rhode Island. Gophs have Miss State, Bama, Cal all on future schedules. There's always going to be an FCS patsy on the bill as well

Benefit? How about a nearly full or full stadium? And create some neighborhood rivalries. We don't avoid the Fighting Sue on the rink. Nor St. Thomas, UMD, St. Cloud or Mankato for that matter. Why would football be any different? My gut is the Gopher squad would relish playing a Dakota team annually.

So is losing to a Dakota school any different from losing to Bowling Green? That was an embarrassment. I think the four Dakota schools plus Montana would do very well is the MAC. And the D1 coaches respect the level of play of the Dakota schools.

Would rather play a FBS school such as a school in the MAC, Mountain West etc. before any FCS school.

Degree offerings don't mark the caliber of the school. UND also has a med school and law school. USD very nearly lost the law school within the last few years and med students already spend most of their time in Sioux Falls. And while there is nothing wrong with the B school, I've never heard it said that it's a "great" B school.

I don't want a rivalry with Dakota schools. If we have a rivalry with them, our program is screwed. I don't want their fans in our stadium. I would much rather beat the shit out of Rhode Island with a few hundred less people. For me, it was a new team I hadn't seen before.

And yes, god forbid we lose, it is worse than losing to Bowling Green. Hardly anyone remembers BG, but 'touchdown Jack rabbits' is still a running joke for people trying to shit on the Gophers.

Regarding hockey, they are generally in the class as the Gophers...Making the NCAAs. We actually need to be able to beat them to be successful. So playing them makes sense.

A whole lot of we USD business school grads are doing just fine – – but “great” probably more aptly applies to the Carlson school at the U.
