Royce Lewis from the Twins also tore his ACL in two straight years.

Two men’s knees and a women’s knee, season ending, in the same summer???

If wasn’t for bad luck this program would have no luck at all.
Really does feel that way sometimes. Feel awful for both Ihnen and Fox to go through all that work to get back just to suffer the same injury again.

We all saw what multiple knee injuries did to Eric Curry, but hopefully these two can battle through and like Curry find a way to get some playing time eventually.

Injuries are a part of sports.

we are more aware of the injuries that impact MN teams because those are the teams we follow most closely.

I'm sure there are other teams that also have injuries - we just don't pay as much attention to them.

So I am not going to start recycling the "MN Sports are Cursed" routine.

some people enjoy wallowing in self-pity.

I am going to take a healthier approach and eat a half-gallon of ice cream. that will make me feel better.

(in all seriousness, I have never eaten a half-gallon of ice cream at one time. a quart - yes.)

I was talking with a friend over the weekend about what looks to be the most promising timberwolves' season in years. We both lamented that injuries or off court legal problems will probably fuck it up because, well, it's a Minnesota sports team.

The same applies to the gophers because it's, well, a Minnesota sports team.

It's unbelievable except to those of us who have been fans of our teams for a long time. It's expected.

What is the surface of the practice court where these injuries have taken place?
I know there have been studies showing wood floors being better for preventing knee injuries.

Sucks that this has happened to three mens players. What are the odds?

I see the usual 'woe is me' sentiment on this board about MN sports teams and injuries. If someone can cite some statistics showing that injuries at MN occur at a statistically significant higher rate than at other Power 5, please do so. If that is the case, they may need to look at their strength training, or the water, or... something productive. It is NOT the sports gods punishing us for some unknown slight.

I would hope that they have a good floor as the players are on these floors for practices and just to come in and shoot. Good question though.

I feel like the sentiment, generally speaking, is not driven primarily by injuries but by this:

Last title for city with all 4 major pro sports:
LA 2020
DC 2019
Boston 2018
SF 2018
Philly 2017
Chicago 2016
Denver 2015
Miami 2013
NYC 2011
Dallas 2011
Detroit 2008
Phoenix 2001
MSP 1991

Last final four for each big ten school:
MSU 2019
Michigan 2018
Wisconsin 2015
OSU 2012
Illinois 2015
Maryland 2002
Indiana 2002
Wisconsin 2000
Minnesota 1997 (Vacated)
Ahead of Purdue, Rutgers, Penn st., NW, Nebraska

Last NY6/BCS/Playoff/Recognized Title for each big ten school:
OSU 2021
MSU 2021
Michigan 2021
Penn St. 2019
Wisconsin 2019
Iowa 2015
Illinois 2007
Nebraska 2001
Maryland 2001
Purdue 2000
Minnesota 1960
Rutgers, Purdue, NW....

Also this - Minnesota vs. Wisconsin since 2000
Major pro sports titles: MN 0, Wisconsin 2
Big Ten Bball Titles: MN 0, Wisconsin 6
Final fours: MN 0, Wisconsin 3
Big Ten Fball Titles: MN 0, Wisconsin 3
NY6 Games: MN 0, Wisconsin 6

Its a mindset that expects a loss, I think. And not without evidence. I dunno if get hurt more or not though

EDIT: Should add of course that the most important thing here is how much this sucks for Isaiah, and the rest of the guys as well. Wishing him the best in recovery

The same two players in back to back years during the summer are out for the year in basketball. This is not just a injuries are part of sports. Can’t really make this up.

The real bummer here is that you have 2 athletes that have worked very hard to recover from their injuries and not even getting a chance to see the floor this year. I feel for both of them. The other thing that’s a bummer is it seems to me Ben is building momentum with this program. Betts and Christie committing and apparently has traction with the 5 star 7 footer from California. Weird thought but I hope the injuries don’t derail the momentum.

The women’s player was a multi sport starter at EP (tough to do!), she just got here this summer as an incoming true freshman. Boom, knee.

Fox, boom knee. Now Ihnen, boom knee.

Players are going to be scared that they’re next …

Not surprised whatsoever. These guys are playing TOO MUCH BASKETBALL. Summers should be reserved for shooting, some ball handling, and cross training away from non-slip surfaces. These are devastating injuries; potentially career ending. Best of luck to Isaiah.

Yep. Trainers and fitness experts have been saying this for a long time. The culture has forced young people still growing to adopt training regimens like pro athletes when they aren’t physically able to yet. We hear of the high profile players but there are plenty of others who feel like they need to play 12 months just to make a high school team and have no chance in college.

Give the football guys credit. They really encourage multi sport participation. Hoops not so much, to the detriment of the players.
