I haven't seen him play the last two weeks - at least at running back. Kirkwood has gotten in on a few plays both games. I regard Williams as a better running back so Rodrick has been conspicuous by his absence.

Anybody know anything?

He played against TCU. Kill sounded upset about his pass blocking in that game which is probably why we didn't see him against SJSU. That and the fact that Cobb is easily our best RB right now so it's tough to take him out.

He's either in the doghouse or hurt

I heard the same comment. However, without watching the tape I'm pretty confident he was in for two plays and ripped off 10 yards on each carry. He changed the momentum of the game. He ticked off TCU by punishing guys. There was a delay...timeout or penalty...something happened and I never saw Williams again. If he missed a block it was one or was in practice. Kill makes a big point with Williams about needing to be able to do more than run the ball but alibi's for other players by saying he Kill did not put them in the right situation. Not the case with Williams.

Coaching is taking advantage of the skills people have. Give him the dang ball. We are not fooling anyone running Cobb 30 whatever times. It's not like we trick people. If he can't block don't ask him to but also, he clearly is not the only running back on our team that can't pass block. But, Just as Cobb was once buried and is now our best back...Williams clearly is our second best running back carrying the ball and rarely does.

like perra, they are saving him for next year.

Dboy, on a different thread, you said you crawling back into your hole. Get back there!!!

He never makes anybody miss.

Everybody has to beat somebody.

Half true

He never makes anybody miss.

Everybody has to beat somebody.

No, he is not shifty or elusive. His style is to make people miss by running over them or through them. He does do that. He punishes people. He absolutely would wear a defense down. What I see is a guy that defenders don't like.

Cobb is fantastic. Williams is our next best back and could be effective given the right opportunities. Most everybody on the team can't do something related to their position.
I'm just suggesting we take advantage of what people can do. Focus on the positives.

Couldn't agree more. I love Nugget. However, he was in Kill's doghouse last year and may still being taught some hard lessons? We have to trust Kill here. It worked out well when he did the same with Cobb for 2-years.

Williams is slow and doesn't make anyone miss. I think Kirkwood is the better option should Cobb go down.

Kirkwood isn't exactly fleet of foot either. First of all, if Cobb goes down we are screwed. Second of all, I'd rotate all 3 of Kirkwood, Williams, and Edwards until one of them pulls away from the pack, because that really hasn't happened yet.

there are not that many plays to rotate each of them and let them get the flow of the game.
QB takes about half the running plays and the 7 times we throw the RB's better block or we are screwed.

Rodrick Williams had to have done something to get back in the dog house beyond missing a block imo. He went from getting a good # of the carries to playing special teams only in one week. Exactly what happened last year when he was our second leading running back & then didn't get a carry the rest of the reason. In fact they didn't even let him travel with the team last year. That can't be just blocking. Cobb gets torched in pass protection every game, it's not keeping him off the field. Maxx Williams misses at least one key block every game, it's not keeping him off the field. I really think it's late to practice, grades, attitude or something like that. Nugget is underrated. He's not just a goal line back. He's a lot faster than people think he is & can give some shake when he wants to. I bet if you had Cobb & Nugget race 40 yards side by side, people would be surprised at the results. He seems like a perfect back for the B1G & what we're trying to do? Hopefully he gets his act together & can be a star next year.

We have a starting QB with two injuries, one related to a blocker getting beat (not Nugget), and our pass protection against TCU sucked.
I think we can assume that the coaches probably have zero interest in having their 200th conversation with a 240 lb TB who won't block.

I tend to lean this way. From all I have heard and been told, Cobb sat for 2-years because he wouldn't block. Folks knew how good he was, everyone saw it in practices and scrimmages, the coaches said as much. Not hard to believe they might be doing the same here. I would argue this made Cobb a better player and I hope it makes Nugget one too. I am a huge fan of his and would love to see him get more carries.
