Is Cowboy Jack's replacing the Sally's on campus?

Will the new venue (whatever it is) still have the parking lot for beer gardens or is that gone with the new construction?

So what you're saying is that it only took you eight years to graduate? ;-)

Good one! Being I started school at 18 and it was a 21 drinking age at the time it could be even worse... :)

It was Williams then Ragtime then Sallys I believe.

I think that's backwards, because Sally's first awnings were printed over the Williams awnings. But maybe they didn't get the Ragtime ones or liked the color of the Williams ones?

It doesn't look like there will be a parking lot from the renderings.

Parking lot is gone, all building space now. However there were original rumors that whatever restaurant space is in the first floor may have access to the roof for a bar up top, but nothing was confirmed I believe.

Sally's Facebook page just changed their cover photo to say "Coming Soon" in maroon and gold!

I realize that I am dating myself (U of MN '79), but who else remembers when the bar in the Sally's locale was called the Improper Fraction? I believe it was established around 1974 or 1975. Do not remember when it shifted to Sally's.

Drank lots of beer (legally) at age 18 in this place - more or less learned how to consume alcohol at the Fraction (of course my friends may claim I am still a student)

Does any one remember seeing Red Gallagher perform at the "Fraction"?

So basically everyone was right: Sally's is returning as Cowboy Jack's, but is still going to be called Sally's.

From an really old timer, STUB & HERBS was It. After studying until 9 or 10 PM from Pioneer Hall (All men then) a pitcher o f beer for 25 cents tasted pretty good. Now when the football team returns to those glorious "Bierman" days, O! Glory be!!!

I think "the colors are better" is just about the only compliment you can give it.

Well, beside the giant rack that they added.

So Sally is no longer a squirrel? Now a Gopher from Texas? What gives?

I don't remember him, but I did get to see the underside of the tables a few times. They poured generous shots.

I worked for Sally's a few decades ago. The owners are the same: Tony & Linda Patterson essentially run the place and Chris Diebold was a co-owner. Chris is the one who also owns parts of Maxwells, Cowboy Jacks, etc. Chris was always a great guy but never around much. Tony & Linda were essentially the managing partners. It was good for a campus bar. The food wasn't gourmet but consistently good. I'm sure that they struggled on a game day. That little kitchen wasn't intended to serve the back room and outside areas. The bar's popularity outgrew its infrastructure, which is likely what led to them talking to developers about a rebuild.

One year I was working over Thanksgiving weekend. We had barely 5-10 customers all night. The cooks always seemed to be from Honduras, and that night it was so dead that the manager cut a few of them. They started drinking in back, and a father and son (both cooks) got into a fight. As a 20 year old I had to physically pick up the father (in his 40s) and carry him out of the bar, just like Fred Flintstone putting Dino out for the night. I figured that he would take a swing at me once I set him down, but he realized he was a little too inebriated. I never thought that I'd have to throw one of the cooks out of the bar!

Was the argument hand-timed vs. electric 40 yard dash times?
