Is Claeys not naming an OC sooner hurting recruiting?

TC now saying he is close, but won't announce till after Bowl Game. I'm fairly confident now he has had his guy all along which makes me feel better.

Hiring after the bowl game is no big deal since the players don't report back till Jan. 18th. That still gives him time before NSD as well.

I'm more sold on Claeys than Mase or Kill. I must be on a sugar high!

Not surprising. Other than die-hard college football fans, how many people (including most athletic dept. employees) would been able to tell you who Jerry Kill was, before his name came up as a Gopher candidate. And he was already a head coach.

Exactly. I follow college football daily, and I can't name more than about 3 OC's in all of college football.

Especially if it someone from the FCS level, which could very well happen.

+1. And none if he is at an FCS school. That statement is to get a reaction

We played and lost to N. Illinois the year we hired Kill and I'm sure within a day or two of that game I forgot his name.

Which is what doogie, reusse, etc. love to do and why so many casual Gopher fans are negative towards the program.

Exactly. The new OC could be the most brilliant FB mind in the country, but if he's not a "name," you can bet the local media's reaction will be: "Gophers hire no-name coach," and there will be endless speculation that the Gophers couldn't get the coach they really wanted.
