Iowa at Rutgers is tonight at 7:00pm

Both of these teams looked like MAC teams. Neither AK or Gronowski are good QBs yet these defenses made them look like they were.
AK choked at the end as he’s wont to do, but he threw 8-10 long balls pretty much on the money; I hate to admit.

He definitely had some nice throws and also had quite a bit of help from the WRs. It was similar to the 1st half against the Gophers last year where he could do no wrong, then he did nothing in the 2nd half. The Gophers had no business losing that game and it still bothers me.

Ioaw's DB's always early and love to grab while the ball is in the air.
On Iowa's first offensive possession, Rutgers got away with a blatant PI, too.
I've noticed on more than one occasion that he sometimes looks like Dan Marino in the first half but more like the Athan of two years ago in the second half. He definitely has improved over the last two years but he still can be erratic.

As far as our secondary, I still think, despite their poor showing against Cal, that they're better than Rutgers' secondary and our defense stops the run better. For the most part, Rutgers' defense looked weak last night, no doubt exacerbated by multiple defensive players being injured in the game.

I agree that the Rutgers receiver Strong likely will be a real handful.
Our secondary might be better than Rutger's secondary, but what's more important is how their receivers match up with our secondary and vice versa. Rutgers has receivers. We don't.

I thought AK looked night and day different from two years ago, at least in the first half. Have we looked better than MAC level yet?

Iowa brought Gronowski in for his leadership & toughness. Usually when Iowa is behind in the 4th quarter, especially on the road, it's game over. Gronowski lead them to 2 TDs and the win with his arm and legs.
He is definitely better than what they've had in recent years but that isn't saying much.

Yeah we beat a MAC team and they couldn't move the ball on us. Meanwhile Rutgers gave up 440 yards and 31 points and nearly lost to a MAC team.

Our two coordinators were analysts making peanuts several years ago their current salaries are twice what it would actually take to hire them. Schiano for all of his faults is an ex NFL coach. You are comparing apples and oranges and frankly, I think the jury is still out on both of our coordinators. Collins had an epically poor night a week ago.
I’m not arguing that our coordinators or HC should be paid more than theirs. I’m saying the reason we can’t pay to keep a guy like KC has nothing to do with Flecks salary.

H's hitting at about 70% for the season so far - his long throws were beauties. Both teams will give MN a lot of trouble.

Very interesting game. Both offenses were unstoppable in the first half. What did both defenses do? Bring more heat in the second half. Seems pretty obvious. Will it work? Hard to say, AK did hit a bomb to their best receiver. That guy could be a problem for us. At least they are challenging the offenses to do something different to beat them. If they do, you can always go back to doing what wasn't working before. I would have liked to see us challenge California's receivers to beat us more. Maybe we don't trust our DBs?

Both QBs falling back to earth in the second half.

How many Rutgers players have gotten hurt in this game? Seems like a lot. That could be good for us.
As a Gopher fan for the last 8+ years you may not recognize what is often referred to as "Half-Time adjustments".

The game looked a lot like the Iowa game for us last year.
