Interview with the Big Fisch of the Gopher Offense

Excited to have a new OC

I am a first time poster and longtime reader of Gopherhole and am excited about our latest recruiting class. It is also nice to see a young driven coach leading the offense however there are just a couple of questions/concerns that I have.

1. It appears we are abandoning the spread offense in favor of the pro set offense which I am okay with, however we have been recruiting players for the spread offense for several years now and I am curious what negative impact this will have on the offense and the players who were recruited to run another offense(i.e. Marquis Gray)?

2. If this was the guy that Brewster wanted all along and has faith in, then why was he not even included in the initial pool of candidates, as he stated himself he didn't even know the position was open until he was offered the job by Brewster. He also states he has known Brewster for 7 years so it isn’t as if he was an unknown entity to Brewster?

3. I appreciate Coach Fisch’s honesty and not promising to be here for the long haul if he isn’t, but at this time we need someone who will give us a long term commitment and not have it be lip service. Don’t get my wrong, I hope he is here for a long time but with him being a young and up and coming coach whose history is in the NFL, I am not convinced that he will be especially in light of his comments?

Welcome to Minnesota Coach Fisch

Great news

Not only is this guy going to adapt his offense to the situation on the field - get into a running set on a running down and run, But he is going to coach during the week to the weakness of the opponent. Gophers Offense not something out of a box.

Surviving that aortic aneurysm is incredible. This guy's going to be an asset to this program.

And who knows? Maybe he'll name his new daughter Goldie.

My only concern (more of a question, really) is whether we have to worry about him crafting an offense that's a bit too complicated, as Withers did with the Defense.

Otherwise, I'm definitely a fan of crafting a new offense and adapting to your opponent - which, in my head, also means adapting your offense to the players you have instead of trying to make them fit what you want to do.

Compared to Dunbar's offense, Fisch's will be a piece of cake. Dunbar's O was so complicated, he couldn't figure it out.

Building an offense the players understand

You've got that right. It was so complicated the freshmen receivers never did figure it out. I believe that's why Weber only through to Decker - Deck was the only one where he was supposed to be.
