This is heavily skewed because a majority of the Gophers are from Minnesota, but it's still impressive. If you remove our players, there are 5 Minnesotans on the other 15 teams.

Regardless of where they are playing their college ball, they played high school ball in Minnesota... there is no 'skewing.'

... the eight players on our roster could be playing elsewhere and it would not change the data. What might be interesting to see is how many high school senior girls play bb in Florida and Texas... the data could then be normalized.
What the data does show, as many of you have pointed out, is that Minnesota is a hotbed of talent... seasons like this one, the HS players will be 'recruiting' Coach P.... financial factors aside.
 

Arkansas and Wisconsin are also heavily skewed because of the Gophers

... many of our team completed against each other in high school. It is better to have your "enemy" inside your tent than outside.

...but in the Top 25 players in the Sweet Sixteen, there were four Minnesotans and just one Gopher.

Skewed and still impressive, yes, but checking your math, 8 Minnesota players are Gophers and 7 are on the other 15 teams.
Stats can be twisted in many ways, so some other observations:
No other team has more than three players from its home state.
Florida has high numbers because it has IMG Academy, a high school that focuses on sports at a high level (as coach P would put it :) ).
Until St Thomas recently moved up to division 1, the University of MN was the only division 1 program in the state, meaning any MN player playing division 1 in their home state would be a Gopher rather than having the state's athletes be split between multiple schools.
Four MN players made it to the Great Eight.

I was just going off of the total from the map. Did they miss two Minnesotans in their count?
 





With some help from AI, using "leading" questions I did some digging. Some sources list 15 players and some, like the map, list 13.
I think the one discrepancy may be in how Crump is counted... Florida vs Minnesota.
Another may be in how Woodson is counted being out for season with injury.
Whether it is 15 or 13, Minnesota has the most representation.

There three Minnesota players that are starting for teams in the Elite Eight... the most of any state.

Minnesota is the "North Star" state... with the hotbed of talent the word "Star" takes on added depth.
