What Freshman QB does not have trouble reading the D

Very few, especially 1st year players at QB. My only beef with bringing in Gray for a few snaps is that you can not just bring him in and never let him throw the dang ball. Even if he is totally lost on reading the D, find something that is easy a quick out to the TE. Just running is to telgraphed and it is on film now that all he does is run. This is way to easy for the defense they already know he is just in there to run the football when he lines up at QB.

If your going to do that at least have some mis-direction and allow him to flip pitch to a crossing Decker or Stoudimire or toss the ball back to a running back. How about have him take the snap in shot gun, fake the run into the line then pitch it back to Weber ala flee flicker style.
Have to do more then line up and shot gun and Gray run off tackle or run a draw without any kind of reasonable play actiion. It can't be obvious either, has to be something they have not shown before but have worked on.

Here's something for Gray...

Take a page from the Ark St/Red Wolves against Iowa...bring in Gray...motion him into the shotgun...takes the snap...hard fakes a run off tackle/the LBs bite and rush to stuff him...pulls back...throws a quick out to the TE or a slant to Stod. Low-risk. Builds confidence. Might even pick-up decent yardage.
