Interesting baseball stats

I did not know this was even a rule. Figured it is always a sac fly and RBI.

It just happened in tonight's Twins game with Gray getting Martin home in this fashion with a pop up to the 3B running away from the plate.

Vargas made a great throw, but an equally stellar slide by Martin beat the tag.

For now they have credited Gray with a 5th RBI in addition to his Grand Slam. I am curious if the Twins Official Scorekeeper is unaware of the rule.

I will be interested to see how it plays out, I am sure Vargas was in foul territory when he made the catch tonight.

Homer off the head in Colorado just now

Jo Adell, off the side of the glove, off the dome and over. Off the bat of TJ Rumfield

Adell has done it before. Wasn't off his head but assuming this one from yesterday gets changed to a 4 base error, he might be the only player in modern times to have two 4 base errors.

I didn’t know that was even possible 🤯

This is more of an Interesting Baseball "Factoid" than Statistic because whomever is in charge the Minnesota Twins In Game Scoreboard information last night did not provide the exact number:

White Sox DH Andrew Benintendi currently has more Plate Appearances against the Minnesota Twins than any active MLB Player.

The board said he is approaching "350".

Today seems to be Benintendi Day at Target Field with a Single - Double - Home Run this afternoon. It was his 13th round tripper at Target Field.

Gray had two errors on one play today.
Three total today for a season count of 7.

Good fill in guy, being stretched thin by playing everyday - maybe Culpepper gets his opportunity sooner than later.

Jose Canseco.

Been there.

Done that.

More of a direct shot off the dome.
This must have been ESPN back when it was worth watching. The way the announcers were laughing just reminds me of Charley Steiner.

There are currently 8 qualified batters below the Mendoza line. With potential HOFer Manny Machado all the way down to .166. Still a long ways to go but he's flirting with Chris Davis' record low of .168.

I saw a little about this the other day. Jeff Hoffman, former closer for Toronto, is having an insanely unlucky season. 6.26 ERA despite a xERA of 3.33. Hard hit percentage is 30.4%. Anything under 33% is considered good. His BABIP is a whopping .492. Which means balls put in play are hits almost 50% of the time. Good article here for anyone that likes this stuff.

Still a lot of season left though of course.

The first two perfect games at Yankee Stadium by Yankees pitchers were tossed by Don Larsen (1956 WS) and David Wells (1998 vs. Twins). They both attended the same high school, Point Loma HS in San Diego. (courtesy of the Two Strike Noise podcast)

The 3rd Perfect Game at Yankee Stadium was tossed by David Cone (1999 vs Expos).

It coincided with Yogi Berra Day in the Bronx. The Ceremonial First Pitch honors went to Don Larsen, received by Yogi.

In MLB, teams with an 8 run lead into the 8th inning had won 2,698 straight games. The Nationals were ahead of the Giants 9-1 going to B8 yesterday.

After SF cut it to 9-6, WAS even scored a run in T9 to go back ahead by 4 runs.

The Giants ended it in the 9th with a Walk-Off Grand Slam to win 11-10.

Streak over.

The two teams combined to score 14 runs in the 1st inning and then didn’t score again until the bottom of the 8th. It got me thinking, I wonder what the most combined runs scored were in the 1st inning in a game where no more runs were scored the rest of the game by either team.
