Indifferent to Indiana, but.....

The Jacksons reflect on hometown ties, legacy in return to Gary

It is quite shocking how thoroughly the ESPN/SEC machine has doubled down and kept its “who got in” focus on Indiana even after all four first round playoff results.

Indiana was a ONE LOSS B1G team and played in the closest first round game. It was a 10 point loss and although they were squarely beaten, it wasn’t a thrashing at the OSU/TN level. No matter. Not one word about TN’s worthiness but the 10 point loser has no business in the playoff according to the ESPN internet world.

If you play 100 seasons of college football with the current system, a one loss B1G team is going to be in every time. Or at least, it better be.

I was actually disappointed in Indiana and feel much of their defeat falls at the feet of their gutless coach and not some sort of hopeless insurmountable talent gap. I had no idea they’d be kneeling out kickoffs, running on third and medium distances, and punting from midfield in the fourth quarter on 4th and 11. They had some chances.

Maybe schedule some non conference teams with a pulse if you want to leapfrog a team with less losses. The SEC are the only ones scheduling teams like Chattanooga and Wofford in like week 11. We’re just supposed to assume the SEC is stacked every year despite not getting to see them matchup to other conferences until the playoffs/bowls.

The SEC could/should go to a 9 game conference schedule which would eliminate the late season layup they all play.....but not sure you can knock the SEC for scheduling in terms of non-conf games.

They pretty much all play at least one power 4 level non-conf game each year which for teams in power conferences is all you should really expect.

Out of the three sec teams whining this year I think four win Wake Forest was the only P4 team played.

They absolutely should go to a 9 game conference schedule. I’d go so far as to say any conference that doesn’t, should not be eligible for the first round bye.

Not sure exactly which 3 teams you are referring to but assuming one of them was Alabama - they played Wisconsin. Can't really knock them for how good or bad the power 4 team is when they play them because that goes in cycles.

And not trying to defend the SEC arrogance, just pointing out that they do tend to schedule non-conf games against power 4 teams.

They can be knocked some however for not having a 9 game conference schedule given the current size of the conference.

Ha yeah I was way off, missed Wisconsin and Clemson. Was looking at who SC, Ole Miss, and Bama played. But yeah you’re right. You can’t brag up your conference and then duck a game against them so you can play a third patsy instead.
