Indifferent to Indiana, but.....

  • Indiana would be a sweet story beating Notre Dame.
  • Texas has always been one of my favorite teams after the Gophers, lesser now that they are in the SEC, but I'd still like to see them pull it out.
  • I don't like cheering for Ohio State, but I like Ohio State more than any other SEC team (minus Texas)
  • I hope SMU wins - they've been disrespected saying they don't belong. Would be fun to see them win so they can say they do belong.
The irony of SMU (the only football program to receive a death penalty) playing at a University that should have been the 2nd program to receive the death penalty (PSU) is quite ironic. Even more so now that NIL is in place. Indiana vs Notre Dame. The state has got to be just electric over that.

Yeah... quite the story!

Maybe SMU was just ahead of the time and doing NIL before NIL was a thing... Penn State on the other hand... not sure if their thing is every going to be a thing!

Both my parents went to Indiana and my dad is one of those dual IU/Notre Dame fans.

He's pulling for Indiana since they don't get this chance very often. So am I.

My family member is the Indiana team chiropractor. I hate ND. That said, I have a hard time cheering for underdogs as when they succeed it makes the group of teams like us (loveable losers) smaller.

I hate OSU due to my bosses being Buckeye season ticket holders. Add in my former teammate is the coach for the Vols and that game has the makings of pure heartbreak for me. Losing to the buckeyes means I will never hear the end of it. I would be at the game if I didn't commit to a stupid family trip before the schedule got relaesed. Go Vols !!!!

I feel bad for Indiana. And the others that will lose in the first round of the playoff. No bowl game for you. Yes, you had a shot as one of 12 contenders, but you went on the road to play (in essence) something not much different than a conference championship game. No bag of swag, no battle of the bands, no strange bowl town eating contest, no beach day, etc. Last night didn’t have any of the feel of a bowl game. It was SDS/NDSU on a larger scale. Notre Dame gets a bowl game in the next round. The winners today will as well. The losers miss out.

If a first round team hosts, that's a little bit better. But yeah, still no road trip, where you're gone for a week+, doing cool stuff every night, swag bags, playing in a bowl game atmosphere.

Agree that kinda sucks.

And yet there's zero chance Indiana would trade what they got to experience/the opportunity they got for a traditional bowl game.

During the season I was glad we didn't play Indiana but now having watched them against a couple of quality defenses I really wonder how we would have done against them.

Hard to believe, but with a 9-game conference schedule in an 18 team league, Indiana only played 2 teams in the top half of the conference standings and went 1-1 in those. You won't see many teams with that kind of luck. Michigan was barely in the top half of the standings.

I would pick us to win
And I would pick Illinois to win.
And a bunch of others

They just aren’t very physical but are super skilled and mopped up below average teams.

It's why some of us were really hesitant to get on the Cignetti hype train. They mentioned during the broadcast that when he was considering the job he thought he could win 10 games with their 2024 schedule.

They had a schedule that really didn't test them until late and when they were finally tested they failed badly.

Can we acknowledge that Indiana gave a better game to a better opponent than SMU and Tennessee?
I guess....but that isn't saying much. Indiana was stuck on 3 until garbage time.. Clemson put up a little bit of a fight....Indiana, SMU, and Tennessee looked completely outclassed.

Indiana coulda shoulda scored 14 early. But that’s just talk. 🤪

Indiana had the closest loss of the weekend!
Yeah, thought the road teams would put up a little bit more of a fight but none of them were really any kind of threat to win the games.

Neutral site games starting next week should hopefully be much better games overall. Hopefully ASU and Boise can give their opponents a better game.

The biggest reasons for the blowouts are the following:
There is clearly a top 5 that is better than most…6 if you count Texas
Oregon, Ohio state, notre dame, Georgia, Texas and Penn state are a level above the others this year.

4 of those happened to host playoff games against teams not on that level with a bye week to prepare.

The lines in the next round agree with this analysis. As the two in that group of 6 playing a team outside the group of 6 are going to be favored by 10+
And the teams playing each other are essentially pick ems

Perhaps a good playoff fix would be changing the top 4 conference champs get auto byes to the top 4 conference champs get auto top 8 seeds.

In that playoff:

9 Tennessee @ 8 Arizona State
Vs
1 Oregon in rose bowl

12 Clemson @ 5 Notre Dame
Vs
4 Penn State in peach bowl

10 Indiana @ 7 Boise State
Vs
2 Georgia in sugar bowl

11 SMU @ 6 Ohio state
Vs
3 Texas in fiesta bowl

I think we would’ve had 2 close games in round 1 in that scenario.
And the 2nd and 3rd round matchups would be much better, IMO

The 4 winners this weekend were not surprising, the scores were a little bit.

Bummer that the Oregon/Ohio State rematch is going to fall next weekend as opposed to in the final 4 or championship game.

Texas and Penn State should punch their tickets to the final 4 as long as they play well. The Georgia QB situation adds an interesting wrinkle to that match up. Oregon/OSU should be a great game.

Well, we lost to F#cking Rutgers so much for that.
Sure the missed kick vs NC sucked, but losing to Rutgers was like a diahhrea attack in a board meeting, while wearing white pants.
I would pick Rutgers to beat them too!

Aren't they on as opposite ends of the state as one can be?
No. Both are close to the south end of lake Michigan. It's a joke because some will say it's not close. So the response is but It's around the Bend. South Bend. 😁 Gary, Indiana to South Bend I knew this because Crown Audio (part of Harmon International) was in Elkhart, Indiana.

BTW Gary at one time had a booming economy. I'm not sure, but I think there steel industry might be picking back up? Probably will never be what it once was.

Edit: The joke was more slanted toward El alumni and fans. It used to really bother them.

Gary really strange
Used to have a ton of middle middle class.
Their city buildings are amazing bones. A time when there was all that money rolling through.

Gary Indiana population 70k

1960 population 170k

This means too many homes per resident, leads to crashing prices, abandonment,
abandonment leads to not enough revenues to provide services but the infrastructure is already built. Crime, unkept streets, etc

Repeat this is Youngstown, Akron, Buffalo, Toledo, Dearborn, etc

Indiana used to have more car manufacturers than Michigan. I think the only auto related industry they still lead in is RV manufacturing?
