Anybody else break into tears at Gus Johnson making the call on that absolutely ridiculously awesome catch that Cooper made to win it. His voice cracking and breaking down from joy, excitement, etc has to be one of my favorites of all time. If you haven't caught it, listen, it's a classic IMO. I want to reach thru my screen and hand him some water, 😂

He was the same when we beat Penn State in 2019. He is incoherent and sounds drunk.

I have been a Johnson critic (announcer) but yep, that was funny in no small part due to the insane tension leading up to it.

Unapologetically.

Sean McDonaugh called that game.

He's been known to have his voice go out sometimes too though so I understand the confussion.

Yeah, I was watching through the Fox Sports app on my phone and wondered if I was watching a joke stream or something. That call was embarrassing.

It can be seen multiple ways. You can appreciate the passion he has for the sport of football or you can look at it from the perspective of expecting him to be level headed and keep his cool while still expressing how amazing the particular play is because of the role he has as an announcer. I appreciate the passion but it was so cartoony and unrestrained.

For him to become unintelligible was absolutely bizarre, especially considering his broadcasting experience. It came across as unprofessional to me.

I didn’t see the call on account of being on a cruise ship but I love Gus Johnson and he’s my favorite current announcer and I consider him the Voice of the Big Ten

Hyperbole.....look it up in a dictionary.
You also called it embarrassing

Was that hyperbole as well or did you mean it?

It....
Ruined the game and was embarrassing
It didn't ruin the game but was embarrassing
It ruined the game but not embarrassing
It didn't actually ruin the game and wasn't embarrassing

Which one? Want to be sure I understand your comments for future posts. Thank you

I called it embarrassing in a different post. Not the one you quoted. Regardless....you can't determine which of these two statements is hyperbole?

"That call was embarrassing"
"This call ruined the entire game"

Well I guess that's your loss then

We had Dave Lee on the call for gopher games. Everyone else is awesome compared to that talentless buub. Even now he has a radio ad for federated insurance and he says ‘crating’ for creating. Simply the worst. So, Gus Johnson is aok.

Why are you unwilling to provide an direct response??

Did you think the call was embarrassing? Yes or no? You already called it embarrassing but claiming hyperbole for other comment you made. Simple clarifying question.

I ask because my friend group was in agreement that is likely the catch of the season and gets Indy to the CFP and his commentary matched the moment. No one thought anything negative about it. Hence my clarifying question to you. Thank you

The call was embarrassing. That's a reasonable response to that ridiculous call and was in a separate post.

Saying that the call ruined the entire game was easily identifiable hyperbole.

He's a hype guy!

Gus Johnson is elite at his job. If you don’t like him than I don’t want to be near you at a party. I already know you suck.
Gus Johnson is fine for the crowd that calls everyone "bruh", watches Mr. Beast videos and thinks the numbers 6 and 7 being said in sequence is absolutely hilarious.

I for one miss the calls of:

1st and 10 - Gophers hand of the ball to Smith, who takes it up the right side for a gain of 7, bringing up 2 and 5.

Ok, no. I don't. Not even a little. Dave Lee was/(is still?) a fixture on WCCO and I think did a fine job (was not in their demographic then, but did hear it when visiting people who were). But man was he terrible as a Football Play-by-Play guy.

There are times I wish I could change my moniker because it's pretty much dated at this point. But then there are moments like this that I think I hit the fastball to the gap & did just fine. Haha.

I always said, he was fine for letting you know that Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop was going to be 2 hours late & no morning kindergarten classes. He should not have been near a play-by-play headset though. I almost wonder if he gets to do the high school basketball tournament because he offers to do it for free. There's no way they couldn't find some communications individual that's working towards this craft from the U or SCSU.

I don't get the hater's here and on social media. I mean, if this bothered you so much to publicly post about it negatively, I want your life. It was a fun call for a tremendous ending to a great game. The last few minutes of the game had SEVERAL great plays which led to Gus's reaction on that amazing catch and throw. IMHO we need more guys with passion and energy in sports and Gus just adds to it just like Dick Vitale did in hoops.
