Indiana a Team of Destiny?

It has been hilarious reading posts of folks doing everything they can to minimize what Indiana has done instead of just giving credit where credit is due. This is undoubtedly the best coaching job in history of college sports and it took both a coach with a vision and an administration/alumni base committing to bringing this vision to fruition.

There are a number of Minnesota fans who are jealous and envious of the Cignetti success. It stings a bit knowing that a program you once considered inferior ascend to heights only you could dream. So of course there has to be some type of unfair advantages at play, right? Instead simply acknowledge that Coyle and Co. don't have the resourcefulness and commitment to growing the program into a national power. Indiana made that commitment and it's paying off handsomely.
This encapsulates my feelings 100%. You could not have said this any better. Jealousy is what is keeping everyone on this board from simply saying what the truth is. And the truth is, this is the greatest college football turnaround in the history of the sport. This is what movies are made of.

My brother is the team chiropractor for the Indiana University football team. Some of you have met him when Indiana came to town the last time we played them and Bateman had that huge winning touchdown. Even I admit that sometimes I find myself cheering against them. Just so I don't feel as bad that I cheer for the cursed Big ten team that is the Minnesota Gophers. Deep down inside, even my jealousy doesn't want them to succeed. At the same time, I have now come to the realization that I hope and want them to win it all and go down as the greatest team in college football history. Yes, I am as jealous as a human can be as I have devoted 47 years of my life to following a team that has let me down. That said, there is nothing about the Indiana story that I don't like.

The play calling. The demeanor of the coach. The stories of the players and how they've all transferred from these small crappy schools. Two and three star players destroying Blue bloods. And even better, it's hard to find a player on that team not to cheer for. They aren't doing cocky celebrations. They aren't doing ghetto stuff. They simply play football and execute, plays every play and every second of every play. It is a joy to watch.

Rather than a movie it could be a math podcast where these are the variables:

HBD: Historic Bottom Dweller
NIL: Name Image Likeness Funding
PTL: Portal Transfers
BB: Billionaire Booster
FSF: Favorable Schedule Factor
DGC: Damn Good Coach
PDGC: Players that go with the Damn Good Coach
FGF: Football Gods Favor
N: Natty

Now what would the formula be?

Sonny Dykes at TCU had them a contender in year two as well, just a couple years ago. Butler basketball making back to back finals?
TCU wasn’t a dead program…

Butler basketball has had other good teams and been a quality mid major for quite some time.

It would’ve been a great movie if they were doubted all year

They were favored in 12/14 games.
They were a 7 point dog October 11 at Oregon.
They were a 2.5 point dog against Ohio state who finished 12-2 and I would guess number 3 in the country

People doubted them once all year and it was October 11
All with talent on paper very similar to Gophs.

Turn arounds can happen much faster with the recent rule changes. Last year I wouldn’t say the were a serious contender despite making the playoff.
Only because their history was so woeful and nobody thought they were for real. They have proven they are for real which means they were contenders last year but got limited "ya-but" credit.

This year they proved they are real, last year they were good, but weren’t real competitive against other contenders.

Well, their only two losses were at Ohio State and at Notre Dame. Rebuilding a program, just as it takes time for outsiders to believe you are for real, the players themselves need time to realize....dang we really are good, we coulda beat them...it's all a process and even with great coaching the mental part is a huge component...getting guys to believe they are real. Remember, most of their guys were not highly acclaimed individually. They supposedly don't have a 5 star on the roster. It's a process.

The paper isn’t worth very much

Check a different paper and see projected nfl draft picks from Indiana compared to Minnesota this spring

But yeah, 4 years ago some people watched high school film and thought a lot of these Indiana guys would be worse
Credit to that staff for identifying guys that do it right and coaching them up to do so

Do you think if Mn and IU flopped rosters IU would win the national title?

Whichever paper you’re reading that says that they have similar talent is wrong

Yeah in 2019 you knew LSU would win, 99 FSU, 01 Miami, 04 USC although to be fair I also felt that way about Miami in 02 and USC in 05, but I can't see Miami beating them. IU just been locked in all year except for one game
Yeah feels like Indiana is a lock in the title game for some reason, no matter what the line says.

Good grief you are such a dull tool at times. Recruiting ratings, genius.
