In Honor of Gary Tinsley - Brainstorming Charitable Donation Thread

Well to be fair, the 'U' doesn't make truckloads of money off the average student. Nor does the average student provide public entertainment for the masses. But I don't want to get into a whole argument on this thread, so I'll leave it at that.

So a football player's death is more important than a non student athlete. Got it.

Seriously Diehard, I'd be happy to discuss this with you on another thread or off the boards, but not here please.

maybe bypass the dumb t-shirts (they are what they are) and donate to the fund the U set up?

Fair enough. I am probably just jaded because a friend of mine died on university housing a few years ago and seeing the U's reaction to that compared to this just pisses me off i guess. Sorry for derailing the thread.

Not opposed to that at all, and certainly not trying to divert attention from that fund. In fact I've already made my own donation. I'd encourage everybody who wants a t-shirt to donate to the U's Gary Tinsley Memorial Fund first and formost. Throw $51 dollars (or more) down.

Sorry about your loss Diehard. I think the outpouring of support is due to the fact that maybe more people knew Gary Tinsley, either personally, or simply as a football player they watched play regularly on the team they love. Your friend was no less an important person than GT, just less well known. Hope I didn't offend you. Had I known your friend, I'd likely feel the same way you do.

No offense taken. I understand the fan perspective of wanting to show support but what I don't agree with is the difference in the way the university dealt with both situations. Again, sorry for derailing the thread.

Opinion.

and donate to the fund the U set up?

No one is stopping you or anyone else from donating to the fund.

The t-shirts are just another way of supporting/mourning GT, supporting the team and GT's loved ones. Kind of a small way to honor Gary. It also incentivizes those who normally wouldn't donate to the fund for whatever reason or just wants a t-shirt to honor him on gameday.

Nice GoldenGo4Fan - I'm going to go and make my donation tonight as well.

Here's one more design to check out.

This mock up is definetly my favorite. I certainly would not be opposed to getting one. And, yes, contributing $51 to the fund is a great idea! Or, however much one is willing to spare.

Yeah, #3 has grown on me as well. I think that would be my 1st choice on the design, were we to go with these. We should have a plan in a day or so. Stay tuned.

seriously, why do some of you internet tough guys/tools/wanna-be journalists have to be so snarky, vindictive and jaded about everything?! the guy is just trying to come up with additional ideas to help raise some money for a gary's memorial fund, perhaps an endowment in gary's name, etc. one of those ideas happens to be a memorial t-shirt done in honor of gary. what is wrong with that? and yet some of you are jumping down his throat for it, giving him grief, or making backhanded comments.

it is just sad the way some people act towards others for the simplest things. especially when that person is just trying to help out.

thanks the the time and effort you have been putting into your ideas, gopher bandanna guy. it is appreciated.

Thanks Supa. I agree whole heartedly.
