In hindsight, this outcome is not that surprising. This is Mark Gronowski's sixth year as a starting college QB.

Not sure what you're alluding to here, but I am simply saying both tore it up as duel-threat QB's at the FCS level and have shown that it doesn't necessarily translate to the FBS level. Streveler couldn't start over Leidner at MN and Gronowski has struggled after making the jump up.
Streveler never got a chance here the one game was an anomaly. It sure would have been a lot more fun with him at QB. Gronowski played his role great against us he’s much better now than he was in September.

Yeah he didn't play because he never won the job. It may have been more fun but he never did anything to prove that he was better than Leidner while he was here. There's a reason he transferred to an FCS school and not an FBS school.

Sure Streveler got an NFL paycheck after playing well in the CFL, but Gronowski is/was a better college QB than him at both levels.

Winning the job is subjective and as such subject to all kinds of things up to including whether the coach likes a kids personality. His post Gophers career indicates I think pretty clearly his potential was significantly higher than Leidners. About the best thing that people here say about Leidner as he was a good, tough runner and Streveler was three times as good as runner as him and an equal passer at worst. He also had a big personality that I don’t think the coaches cared for.

There's no way of ever know but it's possible that the FCS is just what some players need to develop their talent.

I suppose, but I don’t care what level you’re talking about there can’t be any dispute that Streveler was significantly better running than Leidner. He was about .4 faster on the 40 and ran just as hard. So, it would have to have been Leidner’s passing that was better than his and if a kid even gets a cup of coffee in the NFL, even if he’s not perfect, he certainly could’ve chuck the ball as good as old Mitch. It was an opportunity lost, but a long time ago.

I’d also say that I wouldn’t trade our quarterback situation right now for Iowa’s. I think our guy is gonna be great over time and they have a 1 year rental; who unfortunately saved his best game of the year for against us.
