If Woodside was our PG

woodside

The guy goes from being underrated to being highly overrated in a matter of one game in which they lost. Lets be honest about Woodside and say he is good, underrated as a high school player and now overrated because of a tournament game, the truth lies somewhere in between.

Nice work, fellas.
Well, you still open to making a bet then? I will honestly put good $ down saying he will not be drafted in the NBA draft (1st or 2nd round).

If I'm so off, let's have some fun with this and you put your $ where your mouth is?

Exactly. So what did Bill Self say about Woodside? CBS Sports reported, "Woodside's 37 points led Self to declare him the best guard his team faced this season." Wow! That is saying quite a bit considering how many outstanding PGs there are in the Big 12. :D

After we beat Louisville, Pitino called Nolen one of the best PGs in the nation and wanted him to transfer to the Ville.

for the person that said the wolves should draft Woodside, please don't. The wolves do not need another White Bust. Laettner, Longley, Paul Grant, Rasho, Rickert, Igor Rakocevic, Blake Steep, etc.

I don't know whether this kid will make it to the NBA or not, and the NBA bores me anyway. I admit that I really liked Tucker as well. That said, Monson blew it on Woodside. I don't mean to pile on but it was decisions like this that led to Monson coaching Long Beach and not here. Dan and his staff blew it, plain and simple. But that also means Tubby is here!!!

I think Woodside is awesome. He ate Collins alive. Collins will play in the NBA. Woodside would have been a great player for us. Maybe not all Big Ten, but our best player this or last year for sure. Come on could one of our guys dominate against Kansas like he did?

Didn't play against: Lucas, Frazier, Battle, Hughes, et al every night in the Summit League. Not ripping on the kid, but let's not get crazy. That winner vs. Oakland - he may not even have gotten a shot off.

Woodside had 37 against a Kansas team that just held Dayton to 16-72 (22.2%) from the field.

I think he's figured out how to get his shot off.

As opposed to "Black Busts" Ndudi Ebi, Bracey Wright, Rashad McCants, Felton Spencer, William Avery, Marcus Taylor, Gordon Malone, Mark Davis, Jerome Allen, etc, etc.

It's ridiculous to call 2nd round picks busts (since very few work out), but you mentioned 3 in your post.

The Wolves suck at drafting Black, White, or Purple.

Woodside (I'll take that bet)

"I will take that bet, and give you VERY good odds."

ShowinGoldyLove,

I figure Woodside has a pretty decent chance to get drafted. For sh*ts & giggles I'll take you up on that. ... I'll take that bet. How about $20? I can afford to lose $20 if I'm off my rocker. Since you're offering odds, what kind of odds will you give me on the $20? Send me a PM & we'll work out the details of the bet.

One thing that I would be curious with regarding Woodside is how much his development was helped by his red shirt year and playing time early on. I guess I can't guarantee this, but I don't think he would have played nearly as much early in his career had he come to the U, and this perhaps may have led to him developing slower or in a lesser way.

Basically, I'm not comfortable saying that he would have turned out to be the player he ended up being if he had come here. He may have, or maybe he may have even ended up better, but I would venture to say that the likely less playing time early on may have hindered his development. But, you could also say that the increased competition in the BT may have helped. Due to all the possibilities, you can't say one way or the other that he would have been as great as he ended up being at NDSU.

After looking around a bit more, it occurs to me that my prior post would have been a better fit in the thread about players we missed. Sorry, but I think the point is still valid here.

Woodside development - IIRC it didn't take him too long to develop. I think it was his RedShirt Freshman year at NDSU that he had 3 (or 4) fouls in the first half when the Bison played the Gophers. However, he helped keep them in the game in the 2nd half and I remember thinking we were lucky that he had foul trouble early. As a side note I think that was also the game that Vincent Grier got injured in his 39th minute of play in the 1st game of the year sidelining him for 1/2 the season.

woodside=overrated, I'd take Nolen and Devoe over him any day, and he's a douche bag btw.....

Say What?

You are being sarcastic. I hope. My friends from Minnesota have a son on the NDSU team and they cannot say enough nice things about Ben Woodside as a person. I think Bill Self is a better judge of talent than anyone who posts here. He said on television after the game that Ben was the best guard they faced all season. The Kansas players said the same kind of thing. And Woodside did not guard Sherron Collins, the KU player who scored 32 points....just to clear that up. Complete foolish talk, bigplaya. Nolen and Devoe may get better, but they could not get a wiff of Woodside's jock right now.

ShowinGoldyLove (Woodside bet)

Just checking in again (see previous post in this thread) to see if you're willing to make that bet about Woodside. I'll take a flyer on your offer.
