Nebraska is horrible on the edges. Iowa will beat Wisconsin. So it will be a showdown in Madison.
Gordon may get 100 yards against Minnesota, but he won't roll for 400. Think about it. We have Cobb and Maxx. Wisconsin has " Melvin the "__?___. That's it. I like our chances.

That's all well and good, but Cobb doesn't really do much running off the edges.

I think we will see a lot of the jet sweep again, just like last season against them.

Wisconsin also has a defense that is playing lights out right now. I think there is definitely a chance we can beat them but if their defense plays the way it did yesterday I think we could be in for a long day. They shut Abdulah down and held what can be a very explosive Nebraska offense in check (Kenny Bell was a non-factor).

As for the Nebraska game I wouldn't read too much into the meldown in Madison but I do think that we can do some things against that defense, the trick will be keeping Abdulah in check and forcing Armstrong to put it in the air.

Wrong, they are completely different runners. Cobb never runs outside the tackles, Gordon is best outside the tackles. Can Cobb gain some yards, I think so, but he won't rip off 20+yds multiple times like Gordon does.
You don't get to 400 yds, or even 200 yds by averaging 5 yds a carry.
125 yds would be a lot more realistic, which means we still need a lot of offense from someone else.

Nebraska mailed it in when things started to slip away. They lost their desire to compete on both sides of the ball. They looked very weak mentally. Wisconsin broke their spirit. The Gophers are not weak and will compete 60 minutes.

I freaking love David Cobb.

But Melvin Gordon is better.

He should be a finalist for the statue.

College football is different week to week. I'm expecting a very tough game from Nebraska and we'll have to play well to win. I'd be surprised if Cobb runs wild. They'll be working on run defense all week long.

He just gained over 140 against a much better run defense. I don't expect him to get to 200 but I wouldn't be surprised if he does.

Melvin Gordon is the best RB in the country. I expect him to go for about 150-200 against us. However, I feel like we are a better team spread all around, and we have to control other facets of the game besides the run defense to give ourselves a nice chance to win.

Selective reading on your part. I said: " Nebraska is horrible on the edges " I didn't say: " Cobb runs the edges really well" BUT, if you look at his runs yesterday he kicked it to the outside after breaking the LOS. I look for Cobb and Maye, and possibly Edwards to run the edges next week.

To answer your question, Wisconsin has Gordon and Clement, both running backs. It also has Erickson, as the top receiver. To compare statistics:

Wisconsin
Melvin Gordon 223 rushes for 1,956 yards; avg/rush 8.6; average per game 190.9
Corey Clement 119 rushes for 755 yards; avg/rush 6.2; average per game 74.2
Alex Erickson (receiver) 10 receptions for 480 yards; avg/reception 13.0; average per game 48.0

Minnesota
David Cobb 254 rushes for 1,390 yards; avg/rush 5.3; average per game 135.0
Mitch Leidner (2nd leading rusher) 81 rushes for 404 yards; average per rush 3.7; average per game 33.0
Maxx Williams (receiver) 25 receptions for 373 yards; avg/reception 14.9; average per game 41.4

However, thank you for the acute prediction that Gordon will not best his own (and all-time FBS) record of 408 yards rushing in the game versus Minnesota. I agree.

This is exactly right. I don't know why people have such a difficult time with this concept. I suppose people just need to add some degree of certainty where none will ever exist.

That's about where I'd put him. The thing about Gordon is that he sees just a sliver of daylight and he's gone. I'll be curious to see how Claeys schemes for him. If our safeties get too close to the line of scrimmage, that might set up some very long runs if Gordon breaks contain. Gordon is the best college RB since AP (and he might be faster than AP) and the best RB of the stable of great Wisconsin backs since the dawn of the Alvarez era. He's truly amazing.

As for next week's game at Nebraska, it should be a battle. We match up with them fairly well and I don't see this huge talent gap facing us.

Don't sell Cobb short. They had a bye before Wisconsin and it isn't like they thought we'd be passing all game. With two weeks to prepare, their run defense was abysmal. As someone said, if you can punch Nebraska in the teeth early, they fold like a cheap suit.

The OL for the Gophers are finally getting healthy. Nobody got hurt Saturday. Cobb running behind a healthy OL will be hard too stop. Folks, this isn't the Nebraska team of the Osborne years. Abdullah
looked like he was about 75% with that brace on. It also looked like he got somewhat dinged up. This is a winnable game.

Anyone know about Gregory's injury? I saw he got hurt in the 2nd half but didn't know if he returned or if it is serious.

I was wondering the same thing. An already strong Gophers O-Line would benefit even more if Gregory was playing injured next week.

I haven't heard anything. From the looks of it, he was having trouble putting any weight on it when he left the field and I doubt he returned.

I expect Nebraska to be better than last week but motivation is a real unknown for them. Their season is essentially over barring a miracle. I'd be surprised to see them come out with a chip on their shoulder. I expect them to be a little down, and I don't expect Pelini to pull them out of the dumps.

I think they'll be highly motivated. They were just embarassed, we beat them last year, it's senior day, and while Wisconsin losing out is unlikely, I wouldn't consider it a miracle if both Iowa and Minnesota beat them. I hope you're right though.

Not sure where you are getting your information but Erickson has caught 37 passes for 480 yards and Arneson has twenty catches.

I think you are dreaming. The Gophers gave up almost 500 yards yesterday so they did not exactly play great defense yesterday. The Gophers have been out gained in most games this year. They have not faced a back anywhere near Gordon. If Barrett can go for almost 200, I am afraid to say that Abdullah and Gordon could be in for big days. If there is one thing I am getting sick of hearing is how great the Gopher defense is.

Their season is far from over. Yes they no longer control their own destiny but with how bunched up things are in the West anything could happen at this point between the 4 teams still in the hunt. They win out and Wisconsin drops both of their remaining games and they win the division, so yes their chances are reduced but they are not eliminated yet which should be enough to have them focused and looking for some revenge after getting the butts kicked by Wisconsin.

If I'm Wisconsin I out Clement and Gordon on the field together all day with one running jet sweep. Iowa is terrible on the edges as well.

Got it from the Universities' websites, but they may not be updated. Of course, it's always possible I read the wrong column (embarrassed). Stats aren't my strong point. Sniffing out absurd posts is...

Why do you follow the Gophers? A quick perusal of your past posts show you picking Michigan and Iowa to beat Minnesota, complimenting Eastern Illinois on outplaying the Gophers, and picking Montana to beat the Gophers in basketball last year.

Sounds like a Badger fan to me.

I actually think that is a correct observation. I see coach Kill as more mentally tough than coach Pelini and that kind of toughness flows on down from the head coach to the entire staff and team. But if you saw the expression on coach Andersen's face early in the game when Wisconsin was losing, it was obvious he was still fully in command of himself and the team.

The OP thinks Wisconsin will lose to Iowa. Given the site of the game and that it is a classic trap game against a good team, you guys can hope. But I think the Wisconsin team has great momentum and will be able to win in Iowa City, even though it may be a closer game than the Las Vegas odds makers expect.

Funny! Thank you for taking the time to look up and expose this "fan." I don't personally need a steady diet of sunshine and blue sky, but it helps me know who to add to my ignore list when people are kind enough to expose consistent trolls.

Everyone has moments of doubt and GH is a great place to discuss negative impressions/opinions along with positive ones. But when it becomes a steady diet of negativity over weeks/months/sports... It smells of trolling. Some people are better at trolling in the short term but their "career" will ultimately show them for what they are.
