I wonder if Kaler/U are happy with Tubby's level of engagement

The massive difference between hustle, talent, level of interest, desire, etc. were incredibly lopsided on the court today. The level of interest, engagement and passion was even more lopsided on the sideline today. I was astonished at the difference in intensity and outward interest between Tubby and Crean.

Crean worked the officials all game, ran up and down the sidelines, encouraged his team on the court, actively engaged with his team on the sideline...all the while Tubby sat, and sat, and sat. He occasionally stood up, a few times motioned something to his assistants and once patted EE on the back as he came off the court. Though those were few and far between. I once thought he looked inconvenienced when he had to get off the stool during a time out.

The players deserve better. They didn't sign up for this.

Completely agree. If Tubby doesn't want this, then retire. We can all move on. This is a critical point for the whole program. What we need more than anything is renewed energy and hope, even if it's just wishful thinking. That's all the defenders of Tubby are clinging to anyway. And I don't think there will be many left a week from now.

You are looking at it half empty, Bleed. Tubby's vitals remained excellent throughout the entire game. :)

No worries, mon. No worries at all.

I was also struck with how lifeless the head coach and the coaching staff was today.

The only good news is that they might be so bad down the stretch that they won't get a worthless NIT game at home.

Couldn't agree more, today was a total disaster on so many levels. A 1.5 million dollar buyout after May 1st looks like a no brainer at this point. If Kaler brings back Tubby for next season, let alone offers him an extension, I will have lost all hope for the immediate future of the program. The time has come, a change clearly needs to be made.

Tubby's lack of interest today was more embarrassing in my mind than the players' lack of interest. Why should I get fired up about this team and the future of this program when the coach doesn't even care?

What recruit wouldn't want to play for a coach who didn't get off of his stool the entire second half?

I may have posted this before, but Tubby is the anti-Clem in terms of his gameday sideline energy and player interactions.

Clem would jump up and down, work the refs and the crowd, and counsel his players as they came in and out of games.

Tubby not so much.

Something that's always bothered me is how he doesn't high five guys, talk to them, or anything when they sit. Today he talked to Andre during a FT. I liked that.

What is your solution to the issues you decribe above Bleed?

How much more of ots do you need to see?

I also noticed that he encouraged Joe Coleman after Joe missed a jumper. Tubby is a good man. Just not sure there's much fire left in the old belly.

If we had an AD, I'd hope we'd make a move once the season is over, but our AD situation has us in a very difficult position.

Since we don't have an AD, I'd hope that a complete assistant staff overhaul is forthcoming, but Tubby doesn't strike me as the type of coach willing to listen and implement new ideas. So that may just be window dressing.

Don't bait him Burner. He expressed displeasure in another thread as well. Firing Tubby has as many negatives attached if not more than positives. This program would take yet another PR beating nationally. I am hoping for another solution whereby Tubby retires gracefully under his own terms.

correct----the body language and energy level of the coaches makes me wonder why I would want to buy season tickets for next year. I started with season tickets Monson's last year cuz I knew it was going to be as easy as ever to get and now I am probably in the same boat 5 years later. That 10grand plus could have been used for many other things.

So, to be clear - your solution is new asst coaches?

Perhaps he is constipated?
With a little fiber, final four here we come!

Clem used to coach during the game, talking to the guys going in or coming out of the game. Tubby doesn't.

I am not baiting anyone bga. I want to know, clearly, where Bleed stands on the issue. Step aside and stop whining....

Why did Tubby just sit on his stool the entire game?

He showed absolutely no emotion. He questioned no calls. He never once glowered at any of his players and never patted them on the backside. He just sat there.

What was that all about?

That's what I felt today more than anything - embarrassment. Was unable to attend in person, and I was just about knocked over by Dakich's description of the dullness of the team, coaches and overall atmosphere. That's an embarrassing thing for someone to say about your program. Problem is, it was sincere and accurate. I've watched portions of a number of college games in recent weeks, and the levels of energy among our players and coaches doesn't compare to any of those others I've seen.

I'm brought back to an article I read long, long ago about Jerry Tarkanian. He was honest in the interview in saying that there were teams of his that he simply didn't like. He even cited the years. I get the strong feeling that Tubby doesn't like this team. Many have questioned whether the players have quit on the coach. I wonder if the coach has quit on the players.

Worse PR than losing by 20 on ESPN? Worse PR than Dan Dakich saying that the Tubby era is the best era in Gopher history?

Based on his actions today, Tubby should retire. He probably won't though, needs to keep his son employed.

I think Bleed was plenty clear on where he stands. According to Doogie, Tubby's buyout is currently 2 million dollars. Even if you believe Tubby has a very small chance to turn this around next year (absolute bare minimum of 9-9 conference record and a tourney bid), is it wise to spend the money to buy him out with no AD in place? Do we want A. Maturi/Mona et al leading another coaching search and B. To try to find a new A.D. who's willing to be tied long term to head coaches he didn't hire in the two most important sports?

points out why Tubby will be given next year to try and kick start some life into this program. can't have the out going AD make a new hire and probably can't have an extension without the new AD on board.

There's enough of an old boys network to keep Saul employed.

All the other players have left on their own accord, so if Tubby doesn't like these players, Houston, we have a problem

We don't have Trevor or Mo, but they expected to. That would make one heck of a difference. Snake bitten!
