but it is frustrating.

When the verbal came in for Quntin Gardner, I thought maybe this was a big pick up. After some easy research, it seems a little less exciting. Consider...
Two wide receivers from his school were named 1st or 2nd team All-District. Gardner was not one of them.
He tied for second on his team in receptions with 35. The leader had 60 some.
He was third on his team for receiving TD's.
Third in yards after catch.
3rd in yards per reception.
2nd for interceptions.
Tied for 4th in pass break-ups.

It is just hard to imagine how the 3rd best receiver on a high school team is going to translate in the Big Ten. Coach Kill, you need to aim higher. This is not the Mid American Conference. You are not playing Eastern Michigan, Akron, Buffalo any more. No excuses.

He spent most of the year playing cornerback. Yet you expect him to light the world on fire as a wide receiver? And I didn't even know he was injured!

Remember when we all considered McKnight a throwaway offer to land Reeves and Cooper?!

If he's good, he's good. Want just the all conference players? The Gophers could get all the all-conference players from the North Tri-County conference (a 9-man conference). But it's not likely that any of them are D-I caliber athletes. Similarly, just because he wasn't the leading passer on his own team doesn't mean that he isn't a D-I caliber athlete. I don't know if he's any good or not. But I would have to see something more definitive before I would question this offer.

You do realize that Gardener tore his MCL in the fourth week of his high school season, don't you? Here are his stats at the time of his injury. He went on to miss the next five games and probably wasn't quite the same afterward.

is he a troll or someone who just absolutly has no idea about google search. Since he has actually no knowledge of Gardner's injury I'm leading toward troll!

From the looks of the other two receivers don't have any offers either. Stats and awards do not tell the whole story. This kid is a good pick up.

3399, is this your photo? Also, were you pointing at the sky while writing your post? It just feels that way for some reason...

Considering the team leader in receptions and yards is a Ok State commit with a nice offer list (Josh Stewart), and the other guy ahead of him in yards (Connor Crane) is a junior attracting interest from some major programs, it may be a bit presumptuous to say he is only a MAC-level talent.

Denton Guyer HS produces about 5 FBS recruits every year, so getting a foot in the door there might be a nice bonus to this recruit as well.

You need to email this type of insight to Coach Kill, not post it here!

Funny, he choose the Gophs over the figpuckers down south...now just who might be bitter about that?.................

Why do some people think every negative poster is pantherhawk, the OP clearly isnt.

ruralgopher is right, this insight is so good Coach Kill should hear it directly. I assume Coach Kill has also seen the schedule, but as long as you are calling him, why don't you read it off to make sure he isn't confused about playing 9 or 10 bowl teams.

Why do some people think every negative poster is pantherhawk, the OP clearly isnt.

I don't think every negative poster is Panterhawk but I do think 3399 is Pantherhawk. His name is a reference to our record, he is trying to blend in, but I really think this one is Pantherhawk.

PS: That whole picture of Pantherhawk is actually sad. I almost feel like he is an elaborate ruse put on by some brilliant Gopher fan. I mean, he is so pathetic that you almost can't believe it's real (from the 2 dollar framed Dallas Clark poster, to the light sabers, to the Harry Potter stuff), it's seriously like a sad life.

LOL! He's still pissed that we beat his fhawks.

Born and bred Minnesotan, season ticket holder. I have no idea who Pantherhawk is. Honestly. And my goodness, I am not trying to offend anyone, sorry if I did. This is a chat board and I think it is okay to post opinions and question what is happening. Nothing more. Honestly not trying to offend anyone. As I stated in another posting, I enjoy the back and forth. The board would not be very interesting if EVERYONE posted lovey dovey comments. I am just disappointed in this hire. I think a Big Ten school should do better than a one-hit wonder and two .500 seasons. In my opinion, his first big test is this recruiting class. And I think he has set the bar too low. I know he is at a disadvantage coming in Mid Dec. But I still think he has set the bar too low, too soon. Again, I genuinely apologize if I offended anyone. I enjoy this board. No one at my work, in my neighborhood cares about Gopher football so it is fun to 'chat.'

3399, give the guy a chance. Considering Michigan didn't get their guy, you have to realize that maybe.. Just maybe, we were NEVER able to get 'our' guy. Kill was the best we had a chance at. He has a solid, SOLID record.. No matter the level of football.

Relax and give the guy at least 3 years before you let Chicken Little post again, eh?

I just had a novel idea. Maybe some coaching staffs are better at finding and evaluating football players than other coaching staffs and the people who work for rivals and scout. And just maybe some of the two and three star players who these coaching staffs recruit really have three and four star talent and ability.

Insightful provacative opinions = good. Uninvestigated misleading biased rant = bad.

Hope this helps.

I don't think you're a troll, just a bit of a chicken little. Coach Kill is not a "one hit wonder", he's won where ever he has gone. We've heard nothing but praise for Coach Kill, and not just of the "he's a really nice guy", but "he's a good coach". Most of the football world thinks we made a good hire. You are free to criticize recruiting, of course, but just because someone wasn't the leading receiver on his high school team doesn't mean that he's not a good player, you have to dig deeper than that.

He joined in August. Is he Nostradamus in addition to being PantherHawk?

I would assert that Kill comes here with a better resume than most of the current Big Ten head coaches.

Bielema 2 yrs as WI DC and 2 yrs as co-DC at KSU
Dantonio Cincinnati 18-17
Ferentz Maine 12-21
Fitzgerald LB coach
Hoke Ball St 34-38, SDSU 13-12
Hope Eastern Kentucky 35-22
Paterno PSU assistant
Pelini LSU DC
Tressel Youngstown St 135-57-2
Wilson OC at Oklahoma
Zook Florida 23-14

Kill 127-73 at 4 different schools.

In what way at all is Coach Kill a one hit wonder? He's won big at every level of competition, except this one. Considering the resume's of some of the other candidates considered, he's by far the most proven.
I also was worried about this recruiting class, however, he's done just fine so far by me in a transition year, he's retained most of Brewster's commits and added JUCOs and several recruits of varying caliber, but guys like Drew Goodger, Tamani Carter and Quentin Gardner are quality BCS caliber recruits and clearly Kill is on several others from quality HS programs around the country.
I'm not sure you realize how long some relationships between top recruits and programs run. Guys are hearing from top programs after their freshmen or sophomore years and make multiple unofficial/official/in home/in school visits with coaches before committing, if Kill is still targeting unheralded and MAC level guys after next season I'd be shocked and somewhat worried, but right now he's trying to get a solid class of contributing athletes in a short amount of time.

Now I don't if Joel considered everything that Kill could and did bring to the table. With staff stability, great track record and a mid west work ethic joel may have found what MN needed by chance. I was excitied from Brew but grew tiried of the big hype. I don't think any other coach could have brought their whole staff.
