I'm fired up about this hire!!!!

We have a coach with a proven track record of building programs, developing players, improving funding at the programs he's been at, he's operated in a pre-and post-NIL world, etc. He's identified recruiting talent, he's developed a guy like Roddy into an NBA player and he loves the U (the latter is not a requirement but it is very helpful as he understands the drill around here).

We've got our guy, LFG!!!!!

GO NIKO!!!!!

I didn't feel this optimistic after Pitino or Johnson hires, I was disappointed in both. Today is different. And I think the timing is great, 4 years ago may have been a year or two too soon for Medved here. He was patient, worked on his craft and the timing is right.
I wonder about this, too. Niko has proven worthy, but even beyond that, with how much the cbb landscape has changed over the last four years, would a slam-dunk hire in 2021 have been a waste?

Are the stars finally aligning for our downtrodden program!?

In the end, we were fortunate enough to have "one of us" match up with the "big name coach/winning coach" checkbox. Medved showed this year that he is a big time coach. I love what I saw in the tournament with a team that was physically overmatched but simply played smarter and more skilled basketball than their opponents. I also love what I heard from his players after the game- they praised Medved for the whole experience while at CSU.

Great job by Coyle (my apologies to him for not believing in him getting it done a month back)!

Hopefully they can have a better non-conference schedule. Medved must have wanted to take on this challenge. Gopher basketball will be in a better place going forward, at least let's hope.
This is one area I'm really looking forward to.

Losing games during a demanding OC slate doesn't hurt you in the eyes of the selection committee (see UNC this year), and the neverending string of home games against Bethune Cookman, IUPUI, and Central Michigan needs to stop.

I was watching the offense CSU was running and decisions he was making and it made me that much more excited for him to get some winning happening back in the Barn. His success will generate interest from netter transfers as well. Let's gooo!!!

Outside of Tubby, this has to be the coach we've hired with the best resume since pre-Clem, right??

That seems like a big deal.

Can you hear the Barn filled and raucous even before the tip off?

Gawd, that would be so awesome.
To me, the last peak in Men's basketball was playing Miami in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in the 2017 season.

We were coming off a tournament appearance, returning a ton of production, and both teams were undefeated.

We pre-gamed at Buffalo Wild Wings and drank beers downstairs near the bathrooms because it was so packed in there.

The barn was rocking before tip. It was a gold out—a beautiful scene.

That was the beginning of the end, as Dupreey McBrayer was mysteriously scratched from that game, and we saw the first big minutes from Isaiah Washington (brutal).

The season eventually fell apart for a variety of reasons, but that was 100% the environment that Barn needs to get back to—and can with the right coach!

I think the peak was right before the brawl in the Alabama game a few days earlier. That 5 on 3 was bad juju and we never recovered.

All in. Let's do this.

The program desperately needed a hit of the "Reset" button. Let's just hope it's not one of those glitches where you hit reset and the game keeps taking you to the spot you reset from instead of starting over back at the beginning.

Maybe Coyle knew what was coming from 2021 to 2024 and had a throw away hire.

Hi.
I guess I'm encouraged enough to return to posting after the Ben Johnson years. I'm still feeling myself around a landscape that has NIL as the dominate force in recruiting. I don't know if I ever will love college sports like I used to.

Nico is a good hire, but IIRC, Indiana & Iowa have just hired coaches that ranked higher on the Gopherhole board's want list. Still a quality hire.

It does hurt yyif you are not UNCheat.

Don’t trust the Hole want list.

I'm not disagreeing he has the best resume but is he a better coach than Richard Pitino?
Mountain West head to head favors Pitino. Pleased Medved is our coach.

Welcome back to an OG!

Go Mikie S!!

Excited to see what a real coach with chops brings to the program. Lets get some W's! and make the barn exciting again

Yes he is a better coach than Pitino. Sometimes better coaches lose to worse coaches. Ben Johnson won games too...

You probably need at least something to point to why you feel this true. I gave you head to head records...you gave me because I say so.
I'll add a second point Pitino has a MW regular season title and a MW conference Tournament title. Niko has one MW tournament title. Pitino also has an NIT Championship which is pretty significant.
So, 3 to 1 by that metric.
I don't believe Ben probably has a winning record against any good conference coaches haha qualifier beyond one season....Ben did beat USC and UCLA in one weekend, and then Oregon too.
