I think this inaugural 12 team tourney is flawed by this conference champions get the bye rule.

Two home teams are double digit dogs!

These teams should be ranked after each round and shuffled to reward the best teams and lead to the best possible matchup. They are all neutral site games anyway at this point!

The way I see it they should be ranked in this order:

1. Oregon
2. Ohio State
3. Georgia
4. Texas
5. Penn State
6. Boise State
7. Notre Dame
8. Arizona State

Giving us:
A State vs Oregon
Notre Dame vs OSU
Boise vs Georgia
Penn State vs Texas

This would be a better slate of games and reward the undisputed number one team with a reward.

This is a lot like the bad NFL rule that could result in a third game between the Vikings and Lions prior to the NFC Championship.

The only thing I'd disagree with is that I think Notre Dame and ASU should be ranked higher than Boise State. They have 4-5 wins better than any of Boise State's best wins.

Mine would be similar but my games would be:
Oregon vs. Boise State (rematch)
Ohio State vs. Arizona State
Georgia vs. Notre Dame
Texas vs. Penn State

#1 Oregon
#2 Ohio St.
#3 Georgia
#4 Texas
#5 Penn St.
#6 Notre Dame
#7 Arizona St.
#8 Boise St.

I think Oregon and Ohio St are the two best then Georgia, Texas, and Penn St. all seem pretty equal. I do think that Notre Dame is clearly better than Arizona St and Boise St.

I feel like of the true underdogs that ND has the best chance of winning.

I would go
Oregon
Ohio State
Georgia
Penn State
Texas
Notre Dame
ASU
Boise
It's weird for me I want to rank Texas higher and Georgia lower but Georgia beat Texas twice on the road and at a "neutral" field

What have we decided OSU is better based on? The only things we know based on who’s left is who’s best h2h and then the rest is a toss up. Everything else is just being based on “eye test” garbage. Hence the whole point of CC getting byes is that we literally have no idea for the vast majority of the teams to directly compare them so reward those you know won their conference.

Hence why a 12 team playoff with only 5 autobids is just stupid from the jump

1) Oregon
2) Ohio state
3) Notre dame
4) Texas
5) Penn state
6) Boise state
7) Arizona state
8) Georgia with their backup QB

That Georgia team doesn’t have their QB and isn’t the same team anymore

I’ve learned on the internet that anything that doesn’t list 9 out of the top 10 as SEC schools (regardless if they are in the available teams to rank or not) is fraudulent. Gotta face it. It just means more.

This is not how the seeding is, just what
I think the best teams are in that order.
1. Ohio State
2.Oregon
3. Texas
4. Penn State
5.Georgia
6. Notre Dame
7. Arizona State
8. Boise State

I like the idea of the 4 best conference champs getting a bye. It's best for the sport that at least 4 conferences are represented in the final 8.

What they can do is re-seed after the opening round. So you'd have Oregon/ASU, UGA/Boise, Texas/OSU, ND/PSU. B

I wouldn’t mind it if they changed it to 4 teams in the top 8 seeds.
That way the champs at least have home games.

I don't know if they are 8th, but Georgia without Beck is in the lower half. But just watch, Stockton will pull a Stetson Bennett out of his butt and somehow they will win it all. I hope that doesn't happen.

IMO, you're attributing too much of Georgia's success to Beck. Their defense is stacked and Beck has not been very good this year.

I actually think the Georgia -1.5 is the most enticing bet this weekend. I guess we'll see.

Im not that high on Georgia before Beck got hurt. Would probably have them 6th with beck in terms of my brain but would seed them 4th, above Texas for obvious reasons

They beat Texas without him for a half and won despite his play the previous game (170 yards and 3 ints).
They couldn’t stop Georgia Tech or Alabama

It’s a matchup game. I think they’re going to need to score points to beat Notre dame. I could be wrong.

You aren’t going to win too many games getting out gained 390 to 275. Though they did beat a Texas team that i also question.

TBH I thought they were better without Beck in the CCG, with that said I am skeptical as I think it's a completely different animal to come in as a back up with adrenaline vs having to sit and wait a few weeks knowing you have to start.and I truly believe the Rose bowl winner will win the Natty

Agree with all of this.

Also am glad we have a playoff because Georgia and Texas both probably in the 4 team playoff and I think there is a >0 chance they both lose on the first.

Really different playing a half than playing a full game when people prep you
I actually think they may end up being better without Beck. They get away from running way too much for a wr room that is pretty meh now without Bowers and the new qb is much more a dual threat kind of guy. It’s also super difficult for a qb who anticipated he wasn’t playing to step into a game with massive meaning and perform, in OT no less.

It’s possible they’re better without him
It’s also possible the coaches thought was better is better

Oh I’m not saying he’s a better player than Beck. More meaning that it changes the scheme/style. To me this Georgia team should be built on smothering defense and sound complementary football. Against Alabama, he threw a pair of horrible first half picks and the only drive they scored on in the first half they ran it almost the whole way down the field. Against Ole Miss, they ran it 6 times on their TD drive and just over 20 times the rest of the game despite averaging over 4 yards a carry on non sack plays. Think a lot of this is coaching expecting beck to carry the team versus letting everyone play their role. I still think they’ll lose, but think ND would’ve smacked them if beck played and they tried to throw it all night

Edit: the short is I think beck being out forces them to be a bit more conservative and ground heavy and I think that fits this team better

1. Oregon
2. Ohio State
3. Notre Dame
4. Penn State
5. Georgia w/o Beck
6. Texas
7. Arizona State
8. Boise State

I like this top 8 and ultimately could see any team in the field potentially beating any other team. I think the quarterfinals will all be pretty close games, just sucks that what I think are the two best teams will be playing this early. At least it’ll be settled at the Rose Bowl.

I heard some radio talking head make this same argument this week. There may be some truth to that, but over the next three games they would be better off with him.

1 - Oregon
2 - Georgia
3 - Ohio State
4 - Boise State
5 - Penn State
6 - Notre Dame
7 - Texas
8 - Arizona State

Giving us:
Oregon vs. ASU
BSU vs. PSU
Georgia vs. Texas

Putting Georgia 2 alleviates the SEC folk from pissing and moaning too much (or not) for having the last two SEC teams play each other in the quarterfinal round.

Maybe Gunner will become this years version of Cardale Jones and lead the Bulldogs to the NC.

Here's what I see...29 posts by a bunch of random Gopherholers, all with better matchup plans/ideas than the guys who got paid to set it up.
