Since my original post yesterday, Claeys has made it perfectly clear that he wants this job. In my opinion, when the Gophers hired Kill we hired his system and his family. This is what has driven the improvements in the program's play on the field. Most importantly it is what is driving the quality of the student athletes that make up our football team. Improvements in the classroom, in the community and in the locker room. They are all part of Jerry Kill's family. To not hire Claeys would be, in effect, to put an end to the Kill family. For the first time since Warmath, the U of M has a positive identity. Give the job to Claeys and keep this identity moving forward.

It's easy Give Claeys of five year deal, it makes recruiting easier because there's a security blanket. Shows the current class there's a commitment to what Kill started building. If it's not working in 2017 or 2018 then it's easy to get rid of him. Claeys won't make anything near what Kill had at 2.5 Million, so a potential buyout will be cheap as well. Kill's first contract with us was pretty reasonable, as was Brew's I imagine Claey's would have a similar incentive laden contract. This staff has been building something, here you don't just blow it up without seeing it through

Yep, that's what Maturi would do. Good call, Howie.

Ouch. That's as bad of an insult as there is on here. You're not wrong, Maturi probably would do that. In this (rare) case, he'd be right, IMO. In any case, the idea of making him interim for one year until there's a new AD is the worst of the 3 options by far.

Mase indicated if asked he'd assist in all facets on Barreiro today.

I think the U should take him up on it.

Dead serious.

It's not practical, nor going to happen, but I would love to see a Mason offense with a Claeys defense.

I would say there is about a 2% chance Claeys is head coach going into 2017. New AD. New Coach.

How is it any different than Kill when Teague came in? Give Claeys a typical contract (5 years) and if a couple years in it's clearly not working, the AD can bring his guy in then. He doesn't need to do it immediately.
