Dawson Garcia, a 5 star recruit out of HS, the only reason he comes to MN is to be close to his family. Remove him from this team, how many wins do the Gopher have this season?

Now factor in that Johnson will NOT have a 5 star kid on his team next season and given the fact that he can't coach a lick. Next season will be the worst of the 5 season if he is allowed to return as the HC of the Gopher men's BB team.
 


If Garcia doesn’t come here it changes the whole formation of the roster. Hard to say.

This year's team has six gritty wins and was expected to go 0-20. A remarkable job by Ben. Therefore we have no choice but to run it back. Surely he will assemble another gritty 6-14 team next year.

Say Garcia left and Ben kept Payne and Hawkins. Would the Gophers be a better team right now?

Not many more I would guess. They have gotten nothing from Storr, very little from Griffen. Mayo has been very good, but like Garcia came home to play his final year.

Is their roster a 10 Mil NIL roster? I did not know that. Thanks for sharing.

Receipts that the best player by far takes up the majority of their NIL budget? Are you dumb? I know the answer but think logically it's not hard.

So outside of just piling on what is the point of a thread like this?

The current state of the program is bad enough, we don't have to dream up what if scenarios from a couple of years ago to add more proof that the current state of the program is a mess and it is time for a coaching change.

The point is this. The Admin should not be lulled to sleep because the team won 6 games thus a change doesn't need to happen.
Johnson will not have a stud on next years team cuz he ain't getting one in the portal. There will be no improvement with his new team next year from this year.

It is time to go in a different direction ala Lindsey Whalen.

lol.....do you honestly believe that the administration at the U is going to be lulled to sleep by a record that is likely to be worse then the year before? I mean I get that some of you are convinced the powers that be are completely incompetant but come on.....they can see what is going on just as well as we can and unlike us....Coyle's job is tied in many ways to the success of the primary programs so it is in his best interests for the football and basketball teams specifically to do well.

Not really sure we needed another thread to discuss Johnson's job status for next year but here we go I guess.

Unfortunately, most of what used to be the Gopher fanbase has taken your advice and now ignores Gopher basketball.

Howeda might have numerous posts expressing his frustration with the losing but telling any of the less than a few thousand fans that still care about the men’s program that we don’t need them seems like a bad idea.

Garcia was not a five-star recruit coming from high school. He was a 4 star (#35 RSCI) coming out of high school. There aren't that many 5 star recruits each year (for example, 247 lists 15 of them for 2025).

I'm always amazed at how many people are incapable of looking up information in this age where information is so easily retrievable.
