How low does this program have to fall before Johnson loses his job?
How moribund?
How hopeless?
How far does attendance have to fall?
How irrelevant?

Everyone, including Johnson himself, who is still paying any attention knows Johnson is a failure. Even he can't fake the slightest bit of enthusiasm.

FFS, do something, Coyle. Immediately.

At the least let the players and the dozens of fans still out there know YOU are paying attention.
 


Wake me up when September ends.... err They fire Johnson. Until then, I don't give a shit.
 

Unless they shock the world and beat Indiana on Monday, he needs to be gone on Tuesday. This is unwatchable and will reach the point of not wanting even wanting them to win for fear they stumble to 6-14 or something and Coyle drags it out for another year.

Maybe Coyle is hoping he’ll just resign and he won’t have to fire him?
 








I agree on the women's side. Now we have a real coach. Hope it is the same on the men's side. This nonsense should stop.

I once spotted my brother in the top row of Williams doing the rouser by himself postgame after demolishing someone 10 or so years ago. He literally went to the game by himself.

Tonight I texted him during the game about how brutal Brennan Rigsby looked and he replied, “Who is Brennan Rigsby?”
 

I am concerned that with a team full of guys in their last year of college basketball this could get even uglier. There was not a lot of fight tonight and you think they would be jacked to play their first B1G game at home against MSU. I don't want to see what the effort looks like if this team gets to the midway point of conference play and is 3-7 (or worse) and is just playing out the string.

Couldn't agree more. I was a season ticket holder for 4 years during a rough time. I stuck it out, I watched my entire life every game religiously. Tonight I watched 3 college games...and 0 seconds of the Gophers. At this point I'm just waiting for next year, there's nothing to watch here. CBJ is the worst thing to happen to this program and I don't know its debatable.

I mean maybe, but it is plain to see that this team just doesn't have very much talent. Not sure if there is a single league in D1 basketball this team could win. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Also, fire, him, fine. But then you have to spend to hire a stud. The program doesn't attract players or fans anymore. They need the next hire to be able to do both right out of the gate. They really blew it last time when they could have had Mussleman or Dutcher .
 

He has to go. The apathy is so real and so widespread, but its not like it can't be reversed with a new coach. Coyle has to understand that.

With a roster full of seniors who can't compete in the Big 10, its impossible to look at this team and feel hope for the future, especially with Johnson leading it. I wanted to believe in him, but its over. MOVE ON COYLE!

I've also attended games by myself in the past. On cold days it can be really hard to talk the wife into going. But when the team is good and the barn is rocking, there is no better sporting venue/atmosphere in town.

Of course this is all in the past tense, its been years since we've felt that way, but it could happen again! End this experiment now and get some excitement back.

PS Rigsby is absolutely awful and I don't understand him getting more than a few minutes.
 

I’m not even gonna bother myself with learning the names of the players this year. With this many seniors this year is ideal for Coyle to can Ben. A new coach and come in and remake the whole team with all new players anyway.

We have a roster of one trick ponies. Only Garcia, Mike Mitchell, and Isaac Asuma have more to offer. As a coach, every set needs to revolve around these three and the others need to get the ball when their one trick is setup. For Rigsby, it's coming off multiple picks, catching the pass in perfect rhythm to shoot. Anything that changes his rhythm will result in a brick being laid. So, Ben has to figure out plays that can get him this kind of shot or else not play him. For Odukale and Fox, they have to catch a pass while they are cutting downhill to the basket. Edmonds has to get the ball on the left block so he can turn to take his baby hook with his right hand. Patterson just stops all ball movement. It's hard to figure out what to do with him. He's undersized, slow, and kills ball movement. That, by the way, is why Rigsby gets playing time. If Patterson would just cut, catch, pass or catch and shoot, he'd be preferred over Rigsby. But, Patterson is not doing that when he gets on the court.
From this point onward, either Mike Mitchell or Isaac Asuma must always be running the offensive sets.
 

It's unwatchable. Cut the ties ASAP so we can build anticipation over a new hire.

Only going to get worse with Johnson coaching throughout the year.

Therein lies the problem. This coach has no offensive sets, he has no offense, period. In 4 years have you ever once witnessed any one of his teams run the same thing on more than one occasion? NO

A team with any kind of resemblance of an offense would not have the shot clock run out on them time and time and time again.

You are correct. I do not disagree. I merely stated what I felt should be done with our very limited roster. I did not say it would happen.
