Just a quick question to any students going to the game or anyone else that wants to chime in.

Me and a buddy want to get there early enough tomorrow so that we are waiting inside the doors (away from the cold). What time do you think is best to go? We are thinking some time around 2 o clock should be plenty. Is that overkill?

Holy smokes you guys are going 4 hours early? What time do students usually get there?

For Wisconsin and rivalry games people who want good seats are usually there 3 hours early (doors open 2 hours before tip). I figure tack on another hour being as it's the first top 10 match up in 35 years and we should be good.

Yes, they only open one hour early. I would think you'd be more than okay getting there 90 minutes early...but if you really want to be safe, go with 2 hours, so 4pm.

Or camp? Camping is fun. I might even be ok with you all rushing the court if you put in that much effort.

I've always wondered; how early do the barnyard animals in the front row get there that they get those seats every game? Or do people know just to save those seats for the animals?

Those seats are reserved for the barnyard animals. They usually all walk in about 5 minutes prior to game time. The first 5 or so rows are reserved for the "barnyard" it's a free group you can join and really all you need to do is participate in all the cheers and pass out whatever they are giving to the students (example being the 1000 point cards for Rodney Williams). The people in the animal costumes rotate based on whoever in the club is interested if i'm not mistaken.

The bottom several rows are dedicated towards people like the We Are...Minnesota Interns, the Barnyard Board, the Gopher Greeters (maybe? They used to be last year.) and the "Barnyard Animals" (which is confusing because most don't actually suit up). The Board can sign in and enter the Barn before the students enter to get things set up like handing out the Gazette etc.

Cool, sounds a lot more organized than when I was a student during the Monson years.

I'm driving down with a few other Gopher students from Duluth, hope to be on the campus around 4pm and head over to the Barn. Should be a crazy atmosphere.

Depends how nice a seat you want. If you want to pick pretty much any seat that's not reserved, I'd say 1:30 or 2:00. If you want a good but not great seat, I'd say 3:00. If you're there later than 4:00, you'll probably end up under the rafters and have to wait outside. Honestly, if you're thinking of doing 4:00, I'd just wait until 5:00. All the good seats will be taken by 4:00, so you'd be better off not waiting outside for an hour to get a marginally better seat.

When #1 OSU came to town a few years ago, the line was almost out the door 2 hours before the game, and that was an 11 am game. I'm guessing this game will be even crazier.

For what it's worth, if I were still a student, I'd go at 2:00 at the latest. I'd imagine the vestibule by the student entrance will be open all day, so you shouldn't have to worry about waiting in the cold for hours.

Wow I would have gotten there at 5 as a student... Will it really be necessary to get there 2+ Hours early for decent seats?

This thread is bringing back memories of getting to Williams Arena in time to stand inside while waiting for the gates to open back in the Bill Musselman era. The difference then was that game time was 8:00, with a preliminary game (freshman team or a high school game) that started at 6:15. I think the arena opened only fifteen minutes before the preliminary game started, but that still meant arriving three hours before the real tip off. Now that I went back to check, I see that my description applied only to Musselman's first year, 1971-72. Freshman eligibility began the next year (Tommy Barker, a 7-foot center, was the first Gopher freshman to play significant minutes. The following year Flip Saunders was the first freshman starter on a regular basis), and that must have been the end of preliminary games.

And we got the to sit inn the second deck. No court side front row seats for us in those days.
