My optimistic guess is:

OL——-Mandell & Carroll
DL——-Gilmore
WR——-Bibbs or someone else

What do you think?

We are 23 recruits already. Can't really take on 4 more. Multiple would have to go that are already committed.

There no longer is a 25 limit for recruits. So I’m thinking they go 27. If any decommit they probably wouldn’t replace them unless it was quite a few. I think they’re wanting at least 1 more OL but would take 2 if they’re really good and it seems they’re still looking to recruit 1 more WR and they certainly would take Gilmore if he wants to come here.

So:
QB: 1
RB: 2
WR: 3
TE: 2
OL: 2
~~~~~
DL: 6 (Sunram?)
LB: 2
CB: 3
S: 2
Specialist: 0
Sunram apparently is a DL but I’d like to see him at the IOL. Macy and Kissayi could legitimately grow into other positions. With all that said I think Gilmore still makes sense but 3 edge is a lot for one class. Besides that I think OL is the only other “need”. After that take BPA. I think they end up at 26.
My guess is PJ waits on Mandell and Gilmore before adding others. Both chooseM/G then we are set with both lines. If both bolt. then one more OL and maybe a DE.
I'm paying attention to Gopher football recruiting at the 10,000 foot level or higher...
so, I'm surprised in the day of the portal we are recruiting so many freshmen?
On the MNVCGUY Official keeping track of coming and going roster movement we had 11 incoming transfers and 18 guys transfer out this past cycle. That's plus 7 to add freshmen....14 guys out of eligibility one way or another totals 21 openings. How many freshmen did we add last year?
Seems like we either have more guys using up eligibility or we are going to have 20 plus guys transfer out?
Because I am sure we will utilize the portal. Just as sure PJ has this all mapped out.
I was surprised when I read the article about Bibbs. Fleck wants to see him at a camp before he offers him. Simon likes him so it seems like he would commit if he gets the offer. I thought 3 WR commits would be enough but they are still thinking about making it 4.
The question around scholarships has also changed quite a bit with NIL. I was listening to Steve Deace who hosts the "Bigger Ten" podcast on Youtube and he was indicating that scholarships weren't an obstacle for Michigan as they had "several" players who would be contributors this year that were having their tuition taken care of by NIL. Note: he also hosts the "Michigan" podcast.
Thank you the info. I’ve been concerned since the beginning of NIL that schools could in affect ignore the scholarship limit by paying the tuition, books, etc for “walk on players.” And I see no desire by the NCAA to regulate NIL.
That was my thought as well. Gophs have to be over on schollies right now, so room has to be made to get to and below the number.
PJ has a legitimate chance of landing a top 30 recruiting class by signing day based on 2023 composite scores.
Who are the players and what contributions are they making?
None of these kids count till next fall (24)... Plenty of time to get to 85 by then
As he has repeatedly stated, every player on the team roster is being out-recruited under PJ Fleck. He is still aiming high, which is excellent for Gopher Football.
Big changes to the roster are coming by next Spring with PJ Fleck going after a larger recruiting class.
He’ll need about 5 Four Star recruits to make the top 30, so some of the current Three Stars will need to be bumped up.
Not necessarily. If PJ ends up with a class of 25 or 26, three 4*, and close to an 87 average, that might give the class a high enough composite.
Given it seems Mandell and Gilmore would be obvious takes, I'm most interested in how this class finishes in the event one or both commit elsewhere. If there is another position group we would seem likely to pursue it's WR. Beyond that, whether the staff fills the class and at what positions will be telling.
With Gilmore gone I’m hoping we get Mandell and Carroll. Maybe they’ll want Carter and possibly Bibbs.
Gimme all the OL for sure. I don’t know if Carter/Bibbs are at that “can’t miss” level that would see them join our class already full of WR/Edge guys.
