How did the defense let Miami back in

The current defense leaves a lot to be desired right now, but it isn't like we went from an all-world defense to a bunch of scrubs.

The biggest issue right now seems to be teams making adjustments to us at halftime and exploiting the D in the second half. We held Ohio State to 10 in the first half and Miami scored 3. 2nd half defense in both games was atrocious.

This is not good. It is coaching. Seems like coaches are content with their plans and are not expecting other side to adjust. Hard to fanthom that coaching at B1G level yet not expecting it.

I disagree. It's more an inconsistent defense. There are some good pieces in there. The third quarter is what is biting them and what solves that is player growth and coaching. I'll shelve my concerns on defense for now.

I'm more concerned about the offense, like why Wiley is getting carries. He must be one of those practice legends that coaches expect to put it together in a game, because otherwise I have no idea why he's out there.

Its really hard for any DC to look good when they have no pass rush. In obvious passing situations (3rd and 12 or longer) I believe that we should consider putting guys like Wiley (he got sacks in high school) in as a DE and dare the offense to run at us. So what if we give up a 9 yard run, its better than letting a QB stand unfettered in the pocket and find someone wide open 15 yards downfield. I just finished reading a book on the history of diseases. One of the author's main themes is that humans are risk averse and are thus prone to sticking with things that does not work, despite repeated and consistent failures, rather than trying something new. I'm ready for major changes in how we try to generate a pass rush. What we are doing is not working.
