Now that I live in Colorado I miss all the talented players in Minnesota high school basketball. I know this years class may not have any big names and that 2014 is the big class. Anyone in 2013? Has anyone seen Tyus, Vaughn, Theissen, how do they look. Does their size/game remind you of anyone. What about Illkinanen the freshmen for Grand Rapids?

Any news is good news.

I am not an expert on scouting High School Basketball players, but I am an expert on lots, and lots, and lots, of good looking cheerleaders. Afterall, I am very experienced with the WalMart Scam.

Dr Don previously said that everything can be determined with a coin flip, so just flip a coin, and offer only those who come up heads or tails!!

Also, Dr. Don, kind of sleazy that you are commenting on high school cheerleaders given that the question was regarding 2013 and 2014 classes. Maybe go back to stalking Nadine; at least she is of age.

I'm going to reserve judgment on any and all Minnesota HS players until I see how they measure in bare feet.

Minnesota has more mid-major, D2 and D3 talent than you can shake a stick at. High D1? Not so much.

I saw 15 MN teams this week at Tartan and Augsburg and the best players I saw were Sean Scott of Spring Lake Park and Zach Stahl and Siyani Chambers of Hopkins. Taylor Stafford of Duluth East is a great high school player as is Tim Gill of Mpls. Henry. Stafford is maybe low D1 and Gill D2 at the next level.

Mr. Basketball right now has to be Joey King of Eastview but everybody says he's not ready for the next level yet. The potential is there.

As to "Tyus," you mean Tyus Jones or Mike Tyus? I saw Tyus Jones and seeing as he's a sophomore, I'm not thinking where he goes next level just yet. Maybe the NBA? Seriously, right now I want Siyani Chambers handling the ball for my team ahead of Tyus. I don't mean that as a criticism, Chambers is 1 of the 4 best players in the state. Maybe Tyus is #5.

Tyus is the best player in the state, regardless of class. I like Siyani, but they aren't in the same league talent-wise. Rashad Vaughan has a lot of potential. I personally don't think Theissen is a Big 10 kid, but he has time, and sometimes big guys take awhile.

Not sure what you mean "talent-wise." Maybe we agree. Taking talent + athleticism + basketball skills + experience + court sense + hoops IQ + decision making + involving teammates and making them better +++ or whatever else you want in the mix, if my team is playing a MN HS game tonight, I give the ball to Chambers.

Well, if I think I need 37 points from my "1," maybe I go with Tyus after all, but otherwise Chambers.

Usually I agree with your takes, sunnyday, but this one boggles my mind a little bit. If there were a "Point Guard Machine" that spit out perfect point guards, I think Tyus might be the prototype. You're right - he can score 37 in a game, which Siyani can't. But he doesn't lack anything that Siyani brings to the table. You take your team with Siyani, I'll take mine with Tyus, and I feel confident we'll win 9 times out of 10. Again, for the record before someone with a strong Hopkins bias comes at me, this is in no way an attack on Chambers. I think he'll be fantastic at Harvard.

The thing that boggles my mind is everyone says Tyus is past first, yet he is putting up a lot of points.

No, I don't live in the Twin Cities so haven't been able to go to any games.

I think we have a few people here with different ideas of how the answer this question. Some people are judging this on how good the players are right now, some are talking about projections. Some people are taking about how much they mean to their high school teams, some are strictly looking at it from what level could they play in college. I'm not saying anyone is wrong, it's just they have their own way of looking at this question. I also live out of state now and I coach so I have zero time to keep up on this, but I like reading the answers no matter how you look choose to look at it.

I don't think I"m hijacking here but if it's a party foul I will delete this. Has anyone seen this kid Riley Thompson from Ortonville? I have a friend in radio in the area that says this kid was their best player last year in 8th grade but because it's a small town.... I've spoken with him and his dad, but I was at one of best friends weddings so I didn't learn very much.

The two best prospects in the state are both sophomores in Jones and Vaughn. There is not a prospect in the Class of 2012 or 2013 that is a must-get for the gophers, which means they have to recruit outside the state and battle the Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa schools (for example for players in other states).

I'm speechless. This post is hilarious.

A swing and a miss.

Jones and Vaughn are clearly the two best players in the state.

He doesn't know anything about scouting High School Basketball players but he does know about scouting the cheerleaders. Glad to hear you are down with "scouting" 15-18 year old cheerleaders.

Who said anything about high school cheerleaders? There is a big difference between high school and college girls.

I'm 18 so that's not at all ridiculous to me.
Either way, his comment is relatively tame compared to the rest of the internet.

You hold a grudge longer than my wife. Are you sure your not female?

My not female what?

It's not a "grudge". It's a fascination with the fact that someone could be so preoccupied with something that matters to no one besides scouts who drill down to unimportant and ineffectual minutia to justify their paychecks. Further, the fact that you think this unimportant and ineffectual minutia holds any value and has any bearing on what happens on the playing surface.

Kevin Love is only like 6'8" in bare feet. Doesn't seem to hurt him at all...

If you are not "down with 'scouting' 18 year old cheerleaders", I think it may be time to start questioning your sexual orientation.

People's real heights matter to more than just scouts. Maybe you don't care but some fans do. When we are after a center prospect and some say he's 6'9" and others 6'11" it does make a difference. Of course the most important one is can they play. Kevin Love for example putting up the best rebounding numbers in years is impressive if he is 6'10" but he is a shade under 6'8" ...in bare feet.. then its phenomenal.

No, it doesn't. It doesn't matter one iota how tall people say he is. What matters is how tall he really is. In shoes. On the court.

And even that matters far less than how good of a player he is. Charles Barkley was probably 6'4" in his playing days and Dwight Howard is close to 7', but give me Barkley any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

It doesn't matter how tall he is in bare feet. Kevin Love has never in his life garnered an official rebound in bare feet.

What about in beach volleyball? Do they have rebounds?
