Houston vs UCF tonight at 7p on espn2

They're a mite concerning defensively. I understand they just switched to a 3-4 and have a new coordinator and all; but when the announcers refer to UH's problems taking angles and making tackles "all season," I get a little skeeved. Young Case may not be able to solve those problems.

Worry not, though; he's still in my top 5.

It eerily sounded too close to what we've been hearing about the Gopher Defense for years...

All I saw tonight was Glen Wacker...

We need to aim higher...

I like how watching one game all of the sudden makes Sumlin a less attractive option in many people's eyes. UCF came into the game as the 9th ranked offense in the country. Houston's Defense was ranked 114th last year which Sumlin clearly was not happy with as he fired his D coordinator, bringing in the Cowboys former coordinator and switching to a 3-4. They are still a very bad defense, but have made a modest jump in Total Defense vs last year. That doesn't change overnight. Watching the offensive flow of Houston last night certainly reminded me of Jim Wacker's teams...... Houston had over 500 yards against the 16th ranked Defense in the country.

When Sumlin's name first surfaced, I said I would be on board IF Maturi offered him the job with the proviso that he bring his offensive staff with him, but assemble a new and highly regarded defensive staff.

In another thread about Sumlin, it reports that he is investigating how much he could spend on assistants, so maybe this is working out like I has stated.
